Berkeley City Club

The building’s history and beautiful architecture hit me as soon as I walked in. There are so many thoughtful details here that you don’t get at a typical hotel, and it has a nice buzz from members coming in to exercise and socialize. My room was cozy and comfortable, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. Spencer was especially attentive and friendly, and really made a difference. I took one of the daily activities, restorative Chair Yoga on Mondays. There’s no TV or microwave in the bedroom, but you can use the microwave downstairs. I was happy to make that trade for the community feel. This is my new go-to place in Berkeley. Such a lovely stay!

I photographed a wedding here and stayed on site, and it was a joy to be part of the day. The staff were warm, welcoming and accommodating throughout the event and my stay. Everything felt cared for and seamless, which made it a calm, enjoyable place to work. The Berkeley City Club feels both historic and intimate, grand yet cozy. The whole property is breathtaking, with character and thoughtful details at every turn. As a photographer, I loved that there wasn’t a bad backdrop anywhere, from the courtyard and arches to the indoor rooms and pool. It’s endlessly photogenic. The venue created a beautiful experience for the couple and their guests. I’d recommend it without hesitation to couples, guests and fellow vendors.

The whole second floor gave our guests plenty of room to spread out, with places for kids to hang out and for people to eat, chat and mingle. They loved the food and the atmosphere, and the hotel staff even left us a thoughtful gift on our wedding night. Everything was set up so beautifully. We had about 200 people at our wedding reception, and Berkeley City Club was gorgeous, elegant and unique. In December, the Christmas trees and lights were especially lovely, and the gardens and architectural details made great photo spots. It was also meaningful to hold it across from UC Berkeley, where my husband and I both went. Go bears! The one-of-a-kind historic venue was designed by Julia Morgan. Brianne, the events coordinator, went above and beyond helping me plan the day, especially since I didn’t have a planner. Her support reassured me that BCC was the right choice. I can’t recommend it enough. Brides looking for a venue should inquire with BCC!

My wife and I love staying at the Berkeley City Club. We can easily walk around Berkeley for great food and entertainment, and Spencer at the front desk is friendly, knows the area well, and is happy to help with anything extra for the room. I can’t see us staying anywhere else in the East Bay.
