Super 8 Crescent City

The shower was great, the towels were fine, the air conditioner worked perfectly, and there were no bugs. The rooms did have a smell, and the beds need fitted sheets because the sheets roll up when you toss and turn. They didn't provide receipts at check-in or afterward. Still, the hotel serves its purpose.

For a short overnight stop, this place worked for our family and fit our budget. We had hesitated after reading some reviews, but the staff were polite and check-in was quick, with no unnecessary questions, which was welcome arriving late with kids. The rooms looked decent and everything was clean. There were small signs of wear, like chipped paint and things that could use updating, but for the price it was a reasonable stay.

It's right by the harbor and restaurants, but next time in crescent city I'd stay somewhere else. The rooms felt dated despite the “renovations.” At checkout, the Frost desk staff argued when I mentioned that the smoke detector in our room had a dying battery and beeped all night. I wasn't asking for a refund, just letting them know.

We booked two nights to save a little on lodging and spend more on activities and adventure, but left after the first. The pictures of the rooms are misleading. Check-in came with poor customer service, and the rooms weren't even up to standard. The beds creaked and were uncomfortable, there was hardly any hot water, and the A/C made a whirring sound all night even though it wasn't on. The upper deck walkway felt like it might fall through, with rot covered by fake green grass. Past Super 8 stays had been decent enough, but I wouldn't recommend this one or come back.
