Quality Inn Bessemer I-20 exit 108

I’m a Choice member, but I’ll be switching to Marriott. There are bugs, and the staff are terrible, especially on the overnight shift. When I finish work and check in at 11 p.m., I want to get into my room without a problem. I don’t want to fight bugs or clean the room myself. And there’s mold, too.

Breakfast was just waffles and cereal, and the pool was small with a greenish tint. The area felt fairly shady, with some not-so-reputable people hanging around. We left after one night and gave up the second night we’d reserved. We lost some credit card points, but getting out was worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this place for a family. We’d booked using credit card points because that was what we had available. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, I had a bad feeling. Opening the room door, we were hit by a mold smell. My son turned on the TV, which looked like someone before us had damaged it, though the issue was intermittent. I asked to move rooms and was refused. Staff said the smell was from humidity, so I figured all the rooms might smell that way. They gave us room spray, which didn’t help. We had a double room with hard beds on metal bases that banged loudly if you kicked them. They were full beds, not queens, so two average-size people would have to sleep very close. In the morning my son was using the bathroom, so I went to the lobby bathroom. Staff told me the breakfast room where it was located was closed to guests until after 6 a.m. I explained my son was in there and convinced the woman to let me use it.

I paid for a nonsmoking room, but it had ash everywhere, burn holes in the bed, and smoke residue on the walls. When I asked for a better room, they moved me to another one, but it still wasn’t clean. I wish I could add the pictures I took.

The floors were so dirty you’ll want shoes on while walking around. When I first got into the room, the sheets and towels were stained and had hairs on them. I called the front desk, and they said the room had been cleaned that morning. They did come change the bed and bring fresh towels. My family had another room, where the bed was dirty and the fridge didn’t work, so they also needed new sheets and covers. They say breakfast is hot, but all they had was one waffle maker, so people had to wait in line. There was also coffee, juice, apples, yogurt, and three awful cereals, but no pastries, meat, or eggs like the pictures show. They gave us an ironing board without an iron, and there weren’t any trash cans in the room.
