Coastal Suites Resort

We couldn’t stay because the room’s smell made us feel ill. There was a humid, musty odor under a strong, noxious perfume that seemed meant to cover it. After about 15 minutes, my throat was sore and breathing felt harder; my wife’s nose started running. We also noticed black mold by the windows and in wall corners, along with a dirty floor and countertop. At first the room had seemed clean enough. The lobby was empty and a bit dirty too, with crumbs on the table, dirty drinking glasses, and an almost empty box of dollar-store donuts. A note directed check-ins to call for a code, which we did after booking weeks earlier through a popular hotel site. We explained the problem to a maid who was nice, but smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. She told us to call Kelly. Kelly was kind and apologized, and said she’d credit my account right away. A few days later, there was no credit. She then told us to try the booking site, but they wouldn’t issue one, and we also couldn’t get our money back from the credit card company. If you book, be cautious. If you find you can’t stay in a disgusting room, you may not get your money back.

A great little spot tucked just off the road, with easy parking and a clean, spacious room and kitchenette. They have grab-and-go breakfast options, and the Cherry Hut is nearby for lunch.

The room had a moldy smell as soon as we entered, and the A/C didn’t help. I called and was told they’d bring a dehumidifier, but after waiting about ten minutes we had to leave because we felt sick. My husband is highly allergic to mold. We’re now facing a four-hour drive home, and I’ve left three messages for Jake without hearing back. We chose Coastal Suites based on its description and previous reviews, but were disappointed to find a motel rather than a “resort.” We reserved two nights at $309 a night. I plan to dispute the charge and hope Coastal Suites makes this right.

The website calls this place “luxury” far too often for what you get. The bedding and mattress were worn out, paint was peeling, and there was mold in the bathroom, which is so cramped you can barely wipe things down. There was a dehumidifier in the room and nowhere to set your things. A luggage rack, ice on site, or even a bottle of water at check-in would’ve helped. The bed squeaked whenever I moved, and the pillows were so thin I would’ve paid for extras. It’s an okay place to sleep, but it’s average at best, not luxury.
