The views are what sold us, and over the stay we really fell for the house’s vibe. We spent three days in Big Bear and loved it. People on social media have already asked us where we stayed and for the links. I’d call this a gem for someone comfortable or modestly bougie, but not rich. We booked Breezy #1 and Breezy #2 (Breezy Estates #114) for my 35th birthday. I don’t think the criticism about the house not being updated holds up: the photos make its condition pretty clear, and calling it not updated feels like a reach. We paid $1,000 less for two homes than one “updated” place on the lake would have cost. Nothing was dirty or broken. The heater and hot water worked great, and the water pressure was amazing. Once we realized how cold it was and got used to it, we kept the heat at 68 all weekend. It felt cozy, not claustrophobic. We actually loved the quintessential cabin decor. It felt like Christmas vacation cozy, not creepy cabin in the woods. A couple things for future guests: WiFi is sparse, so expect to unplug in the bedrooms in Breezy 1. The living room TVs in both homes had so many remotes that it would take a PhD and a Mensa membership to figure them out. One of us had brought a Google streaming stick, so we just used its remote instead. From the group chef: if you’re planning to cook, bring all your ingredients. The cabins didn’t provide anything for cooking, even basic essentials. Customer service was great. They answered all our questions before and during the weekend. A couple of emails didn’t arrive, but when I called, they sent everything within five minutes.

The rental agency has been our biggest frustration. The manager hasn’t called back or offered any real solution beyond a small refund for the cleaning crew. We paid $1,000 and got $150 back. We couldn’t enjoy the first night because of the state of the house, couldn’t check in until after 7:30, and had to make several calls to get cleaners sent out. We weren’t refunded for that night. The stress this put on our family and three small children was unfair. This company felt unprofessional and dishonest. I hope other families can avoid this experience, and that this review helps them make a better choice. The house itself was in rough shape, with several things not working. The front door wouldn’t close, light bulbs were left uncovered, window coverings were broken or missing, and the kitchen appliances didn’t work. The porch wood and the indoor stairs were crumbling apart. Please look at the attached photos. We couldn’t check in at 4:00 because the house hadn’t been cleaned. The beds and sheets were dirty and unchanged, the floors and counters were unclean, and we found dirty towels piled on the dryer while looking for clean ones. The kitchen and all the bathrooms were dirty too. After several calls to the office, cleaners arrived at 7:00 p.m. Our family, including three small children, couldn’t unpack or use the house until after 7:30. The office sent links to other properties, but none had enough beds for us. We ended up buying cleaning supplies and thought we’d have to wash the sheets and towels ourselves so the kids could bathe and sleep in clean beds. They were exhausted, and the evening was ruined.

Back for a second year in a row, and the views are amazing. The cabin is right on the lake and the house is in great condition. It was missing a few kitchen condiments, but that’s no big deal.

It looked spacious on the website, but the place was small and didn’t match the description.

A lovely spot for a vacation with Big Bear Vacations.
