Knickerbocker Mansion Inn B&B

Google’s summary says Big Bear Mansion is a bed and breakfast, but it’s now a vacation rental. My family and friends rented the whole property and had a great time. There were 20 of us, and the houses accommodated us comfortably. They were very clean, with the amenities just as advertised, and the owners were available and responsive throughout the trip. We brought our three large dogs, a German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and St. Bernard. In summer, we had BBQs every night, walked to town for drinks, and rented a pontoon boat on the lake. The drive to the dock took literally two minutes. We’ll definitely return.

The new owners have made lots of improvements and clearly care about preserving this historic Big Bear landmark for future generations. It can be booked for weddings and other functions, or for a weekend away with or without kids. You can easily walk to the Village shops and restaurants, and the lake is only a couple of blocks away. It’s close to everything, but still quiet enough to relax and recenter. Definitely recommend checking it out.

The rain poured in the hours before our outdoor ceremony, then stopped just 45 minutes before it was due to start. The staff scrambled to dry the chairs and set the reception tables with tablecloths and our centerpieces while we got ready. Knowing they were handling everything gave me so much comfort. Vickie checked in often to see if I needed anything while we stayed in the Mansion Suite, and when we had a couple of last minute requests, they simply said they’d make them happen. Vickie and Ed Harris and their staff were the warmest, most accommodating hosts, and went above and beyond to make sure our event ran smoothly. The landscaped grounds, secluded forest setting, sweeping lake view from the outdoor deck, and rustic elegance of the mansion and its bistro made a beautiful venue for our wedding and reception at the Knickerbocker Mansion. It was a five star experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the Knickerbocker Mansion and Ed & Vickie Harris for any event.

I’d gladly come back to this joyful resort. The rooms are warm and comfortable, and each has its own look from the previous owner’s redecoration. The kitchen serves excellent food, and the place has a one of a kind feel from the moment you walk in. I’ve always enjoyed visiting, especially for the nearby walking, biking, and hiking trails.
