Sleepy Forest Cottages

The fireplace and tub were laid out so well, and the room was almost perfect. I only wish my friend could’ve stayed with me to enjoy it. The fire was nice, though the fireplace knob ticked so loudly that it was hard to relax and enjoy it peacefully. The tub jets were okay, but the control to turn them on was across the room instead of close to the tub. A note mentioned another control for switching them off from the tub, but I couldn’t find it. One end table was also really wobbly, like it might be missing a leg. Other than those things, I’d recommend the place and stay again.

The heater was so loud it kept us awake all night, and there was nobody available to help. The office seemed abandoned. We stayed at Sleepy Forest in Big Bear Lake and regretted it. The place was old, dirty, and poorly maintained. The sheets and pillows smelled awful, and we felt uncomfortable as soon as we arrived. For what they charge, it’s absolutely not worth it. Save yourself the stress and book elsewhere.

The price online turned out to be nowhere near what we actually paid, because extra fees made the final cost jump after booking. And in my experience there was basically no chance of getting a refund. The check-in process was ridiculously long and intrusive, almost like filling out a background check just to get a keycode, and everything was handled through a phone. The office was dark, locked, and looked abandoned, with literally no staff to talk to if a problem came up. The cabin itself was old and poorly maintained, with a strong musty, moldy smell that made it hard to stay inside. The online photos felt completely deceptive. There was hair in the bathtub, the sheets and floors were dirty, the heater didn’t work at all, and the furniture looked decades old. This was one of the worst stays I’ve ever had. For what they charge, it’s nowhere close to worth it. I’d never stay here again and strongly suggest looking elsewhere before wasting your money and time.

Set among gorgeous pines, this is a beautiful spot, close to the village. You can walk half a block to Meadow Park and continue to the lake’s edge. The room was clean and everything worked. I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family.
