Days Inn & Suites Big Spring

The room had a 3-inch by 1-inch friend in it, and I took pictures of the so-called housekeeping. We spent hundreds of dollars on the room over several weeks, but the weekday day-shift front desk man decided our federally registered service dog wasn’t one. He acted like a service dog professional. He was also very harsh and rude to my disabled wife, who is hard of hearing and takes more time with things. He decided she couldn’t be disabled, and she came back to me in tears. Who made that folly Polly God? I wouldn’t trust staying the night there, let alone let my dog stay. Be careful, he likes to play God. Another guest has pictures of their own to share. Have fun with the roach infestation and them crawling on you at night. Good lunch, I mean luck!

The place has been remodeled and looks lovely, with nice furnishings and decor. It’s the nicest Days Inn I’ve stayed in for many years. There’s also guest laundry in a separate building, with very efficient machines. Washing is $2 and drying is $1.50 for 45 minutes.

The beds were comfortable, the AC worked well, and both rooms we used were very clean. The checkout staff were friendly, too. But the accessible setup was a real problem for my mom, who has a hip issue and often uses a walker or wheelchair. We first checked into a different room, but its bed was far too high for her to get into safely. All the beds are taller than the desk. She sometimes struggles even to step into her car. We asked the desk for a step stool, and they refused because they said they’d be liable if she fell. They’d also be liable if she fell trying to get into bed without one. In the end, we used my brother’s suitcase as a boost. The bathroom had room for her wheelchair, and she could move around without getting stuck, but it wasn’t very accessible otherwise. There was a shower rail, just not where it could help her get into or out of the tub, and no rail beside the very low toilet. The room entrance had a half-finished “ramp” with a 1.5-inch curb she couldn’t manage on her own. The marked accessible parking spots have ramps inside the spots themselves, so how can someone park and use the ramp in the same space? And what happens if the other spot’s ramp is blocked? The only difference between the regular and “handicap” rooms is a wider bathroom doorway.

I make this my regular stop when I drive from Austin to Midland for work on highway 87. It’s always clean, and the people at check-in are friendly.
