Blue Sky Motel

After nine months in their “nicest” room, I’m now dealing with the owners trying to keep my $310 security deposit. I also fixed the porch myself using my own materials. They claim I broke the lease by smoking “IN” the property, though the lease says not to smoke “IN” it and says nothing about “ON.” I took photos of cigarette bins and buckets lined up outside many rooms. The cleaning lady even corrected the owner when he put words in her mouth, saying, “I didn’t say that,” while he accused me of damage I hadn’t caused. Pennsylvania law allows tenants to sue for twice the difference between damages and the deposit after 30 days, and sometimes twice the deposit itself, so he’ll soon learn that. The place is crawling with bed bugs and mold, and has plenty of other disgusting features. Room 12 is infested with roaches. Room 10 had loads of mold under the bed and a tremendous number of bed bugs. Don’t be fooled, this place is a trap. Cars have been keyed and tires flattened. The owner left my mail outside my door, where it was stolen. I could go on for days. Please beware!

My body was covered in bites and welts after bed bugs bit me more than 100 times in one night. This was the biggest mistake of my life. The property knows about the severe infestation and hides it, so don’t be taken in by outdated positive reviews. I hate this experience, the property, Ankur, and the filthy manager and property that have turned my life upside down. Please learn from my mistake and never stay here. The manager also won’t acknowledge what he did wrong, apologize, or give refunds.

The owners and managers were friendly and courteous, and I’d definitely stay here again when I visit Gettysburg. I’m from Canada and go there quite often. It’s a quiet, peaceful spot in the country, away from traffic and noise. Each room has a private deck at the back, and it was lovely to sit out there in the morning. There are picnic tables, a bench swing, and an outdoor gathering area where family and friends can sit at night and BBQ. It has more of a camping feel than a hotel, without feeling shut in your room, and you can’t beat the price. It’s dated, so don’t expect a high rise hotel experience, but the rooms are clean and a good size. It’s great for families with kids: there’s lots of outdoor space to run and play, safely away from traffic. Kids who like being outside might enjoy this motel more than a high rise hotel.

I checked out early and lost money after telling the front desk I couldn’t stay a second night. They gave me attitude, were rude, and made a fuss about my decision. I’m not sure how this place has any good reviews. I checked in late, so the owner called to say she’d leave the room unlocked and I could check in with her in the morning since nobody would be at the front desk. I know motels can be basic and that you get what you pay for, but this room was beyond gross. The floors hadn’t been cleaned, and dead bugs were all over the bathroom floor. The whole room smelled of urine. Instead of cleaning the sticky pee-covered floors, they put a car air freshener on the AC to cover the odor, which made it even worse. Every towel had brown stains. Avoid at all costs!
