Homewood Suites by Hilton Boston/Billerica

We had a funeral and appointments all day, so moving hotels wasn’t easy, but we left early the next morning. We’d already booked another night and were told they couldn’t refund that final night. I won’t book here again. The two-bed suite at the back had roaches, three of them running around in broad daylight. The toilet trickled and flushed itself all night, leaving a dark stain in the bowl, clearly an ongoing problem. There was a quarter-inch gap along the kitchen floor wall, full of crumbs and debris, no wonder there were roaches. The sofa was torn, and the kitchen chairs were very dirty. There was also a marijuana smell in the hall. On the way to the car we saw several people outside the back door smoking weed, at least they were outdoors. We told the front desk about the roaches and were told a manager would call, but no one did. The hotel felt worn as soon as we walked in, especially the furniture and carpets. Staff seemed friendly, and the free breakfast was okay, but the room problems overwhelmed those positives.

The front desk staff were very nice, but I wouldn’t recommend this place and wouldn’t stay again. It needs a serious deep clean. The stairs looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. There was fresh vomit on them when we arrived Sunday, and by Wednesday it had dried into the carpet. Our room’s AC didn’t work well, the furniture was dusty and dirty, and there were what looked like bleach stains around the room’s border plus a huge burn mark by the door. The hallway and rooms smelled like old food. When we came back, the bathroom didn’t look as if it had been swept or mopped. The lobby bathroom was awful too: the toilet seat wasn’t bolted down, and there was poop all over the stall. Breakfast was powdered eggs, half-cooked ego waffles, and Canadian bacon. I love Homewood suites, but this wasn’t it.

Check out at noon was nice, and breakfast was adequate. The staff’s lack of concern about cleanliness was shocking. Go to the nearby Hampton Inn instead. Hilton corporate should spend a few weekend nights here. Stay somewhere else.

The GM was great, but I’d recommend another hotel. The rooms were a bit old, though mostly clean. The receptionist called “Twan” was completely incompetent and no help at all. I can’t understand why management put this person in a customer-facing job. One morning they ran out of eggs just 30 minutes after opening, and we waited almost 10 minutes for clean silverware. The shower never got properly hot, only lukewarm. Even with a kitchen, there were hardly any bowls, silverware, or other basics.
