Edgewater Inn

The check-in itself was pleasant. The man who helped us was friendly and professional, but the room was filthy and felt unsanitary wherever I touched. There was mold in the corners, including black mold, and the carpet felt dirty or possibly moldy under bare feet. Roaches kept coming toward us even when we stomped at them. The toilet, tub, walls, counters, tables, and floors were nasty; stained towels and a toilet with a "sanitized" strip didn't make it feel clean. The double toilet paper holder was broken, the wall hair dryer was busted, and the shower curtain bar was badly rusted. I have strong mold sensitivity after mold poisoning a couple of years ago. I didn't realize the room was making me ill, and my legs are now burning and uncomfortable. I vomited and felt sick, and plan to see my doctor Monday for treatment. I should have complained, but after reading reviews I didn't think it would help. They took a $50 deposit, though we paid $40 because they didn't have change, while also warning guests they could charge a cleaning fee. Given how poorly the room was cleaned, I wondered if that's a way to get customers to clean it themselves. I think I should get one night's refund, and would meet them halfway by paying for one night and getting one back. If they don't refund that day, this could lead to a suit over my doctor visit, treatment, and pain. It's a shame because the staff are personable, but they don't tell you the rooms have roaches and mold.

We had a clean, nice balcony room, and the rates felt good for what we got. The location is ideal for the casinos, beach, and family entertainment. The safe didn't work, though I can hardly call that a complaint when open carry is allowed everywhere. I liked the old, rustic Southern feel and will definitely return.

It's near the water and the rooms are bigger than at some other places, but they're very run-down and badly need renovations. For what we paid, we could've stayed elsewhere for less and gotten more amenities.

I used to enjoy staying here during Cruisin' the Coast, but this year's visit was a different story, and I won't return. I know booking a smoking room was partly my fault, but the room was a dump. There were holes in the walls, bathroom carpet lifting at the seam, and loose bathroom tiles. The safe looked like someone had pried it open, there were no smoke detectors, and the furniture had mold. The location was why I liked the place before.
