The Darby has turned a once-derelict building into a welcoming place to slow down, get away, and reconnect. We had a lovely anniversary weekend and plan to return as soon as we can. The whole place has a relaxed, old-school Catskills boarding-house feel, with guests chatting in the halls, around the bonfire, and at the bar, Delphine, named for the property's original proprietress. There are fewer than 40 rooms, I believe, which helps it feel like a community. The spaces are comfortable, with thoughtful furnishings and good beds and linens. There are plenty of shared areas, 15 acres of walking trails, and it's a two-minute walk into narrowsburg. With a full professional kitchen, it could suit a retreat or perhaps a future dining option. Manager Leóne is the real highlight, warm, kind, and attentive to both guests and the atmosphere. He also has a plant store in town. If you're lucky, you'll meet his sweet, giant doodle, Seamus. The hotel welcomes dogs and families. One downside, the walls are thin and sound carries. Ear plugs and white noise from my phone helped me; people were well behaved and quiet at night. I liked that there were no TVs in the rooms, which encouraged us to spend time in the common areas and helped with the noise issue. The place keeps changing and upgrading, and I'm excited to see what's new on our next visit.

We had our whole wedding group stay at The Darby, and it was the perfect weekend. There was plenty of room for everyone to gather, with a front patio for coffee and a big backyard where we spent time by the fire pit. The outdoor space and central location worked so well, with an easy walk into town and to the river. Leon was a wonderful host, and Dennis did a great job bartending for our large group. The hotel is thoughtfully decorated, from the quality furniture to the bedding and toiletries, and both our room and the shared areas were very clean. We were comfortable the whole weekend, loved the look of the place, and plan to return. Our guests felt the same. Thanks to The Darby crew!

The location is terrific, and the place was clean and comfortable. I don't mind the minimalist look or limited amenities, but I do expect the promised basics and a secure stay. We got coffee on two out of three mornings, which wasn't good enough. Most days there was nobody at the front desk; a note and key were left for us, with no welcome or suggestions for places to see or eat. It felt cold. On our last morning, when we were the only guests, we found the main door unlocked. The bar isn't always open, and the pool had been installed but, I believe, was still waiting for inspections. I stayed here two years ago under a previous owner and wanted to like The Darby this time, since the bar, pool, and new touches seemed promising. But I was disappointed. When Leon is around, it's friendly. There isn't another place to stay in the area, so maybe there's little reason to try harder. It could be a gem, but right now it's mediocre.

We needed somewhere near Woodloch Resort for a wedding, and The Darby was an easy 15-minute drive away. The views were beautiful, the rooms very comfortable, and the King Room had a super comfortable bed, cute decor, and even a pitcher of water. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and we liked the bar's vibe. The kitchen had closed by the time we got back, but they kindly gave us plenty of snacks to tide us over until the adorable continental breakfast. A quaint little gem, definitely recommended.

The bar serves excellent drinks, and there are board games and a pool table in the lounge, so make time to hang out there. We had an amazing stay at The Darby, with charming touches everywhere. Checking in after midnight, my partner and I saw six deer roaming the grounds. The room was a bit small for a standard king, but the bed and comforter were so comfortable, everything was remarkably clean, and the towels weren't scratchy. There was no microwave or TV, just a cute retro fridge and binoculars. The minimal service is by design, and online or text check-in and checkout were seamless, leaving us free to relax. The staff and owner were friendly, and there was a dog who ate Slim Jims. Whatever you do, don't feed the dog a Slim Jim.
