Days Inn by Wyndham Birch Run

My husband checked in Saturday morning after traveling all week and found there was no laundry facility or hot tub. The hotel is close to restaurants and shops, so at least he had things to do over the weekend. But the shower pressure was awful, the bed was uncomfortable, and the floor was sticky. When he sat at the desk to eat, a chair leg snapped. He could have been hurt, but when he called the desk, the staff member wasn't helpful or sympathetic and said he'd be charged $50 for the chair. It was cheap, old furniture that broke, and the place wasn't up to par or close to what the website advertised. He asked to check out a day early and get the second day refunded if they were charging him for the chair. The staff member said he could check out whenever he wanted, but wouldn't refund anything and would still charge for the chair. I'm starting to wonder if they knowingly put old things in the room so they can charge guests. I told him to get out before they had us paying for the microwave or refrigerator too. This was the worst hotel reservation I've ever made. Don't stay here, go anywhere else.

The location was the only good thing about the trip. My wife had to fight with rude staff to get a main floor room because I'm on a scooter after surgery. They have no elevator and put us on the second floor. The walkways in and out were packed with snow and ice, with no snow removal or salt for safety. Using a knee scooter in winter is hard enough, and the lack of maintenance and respect for people with disabilities is crazy. Then we couldn't use our bathroom. The toilet bubbled, and the sink and shower wouldn't drain. When my wife told the front desk woman, she said this happens all the time when temperatures drop. This is Michigan, it gets cold. We won't stay here again.

As soon as I walked in, the woman at the desk warned me there were only a couple of rooms left and they were high dollar. It felt like she was telling me she was going to rip me off. The price started at 169, then dropped to 124 after I said that wasn't what the online price showed. I hadn't said anything else, and the price dropped 60 dollars. She was rude, and I could tell she didn't want me there, though I literally don't know her. When I showed her the online listing, she argued more. I asked her not to start a conflict, but she acted like I wasn't allowed to ask questions. Online showed over 9 rooms available. She lied about all of it, and I felt discriminated against. Shame on her. She didn't explain her “forget” comment about warning me, and couldn't say why the room price went from 169 to 119. Then she acted like she never said 169. Maybe she was going to pocket the money, and when she lied herself into a corner, I had to leave. I was waiting for her to call the police next. I recorded the interaction and can prove it all.

We got lost trying to find the road to the building, but the main lobby made me think it would be a nice place. Service was nice and check-in went smoothly. Then the room was a letdown: small, with a weird bathroom, dusty-feeling curtains, and a ceiling that looked unclean. There were hair clippings all over the bed, and we could hear the people next door. We were going to have breakfast, but decided we'd rather just sleep and leave as soon as possible. I went with my family and wouldn't say the $80 stay was worth it. Friends going to Frankenmuth in a few weeks are going to get my recommendation to stay somewhere else.
