Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham SE/Liberty Park

The ladybugs were the worst part of my stay. I changed rooms twice because each one had several live and dead bugs, including some in the bed and around the AC unit. I know they may be considered harmless, but seeing them in the room made it hard to feel comfortable. I was in town for a conference and was ready to leave. The restaurant had few choices, and my meal came out wrong and undercooked, though they did comp it. The hotel also needs work, with peeling paint, marks on the walls, and bad smells in the halls and rooms. Most of the staff were kind and professional, but I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The manager and staff are really accommodating, and maintenance responds quickly. It's a decent place to rest, though housekeeping could do better. They have ladybugs, but they're harmless lol. If you spot one, just remember some other hotels have much less charming insects.

The location worked well for us, with quiet outdoor seating and a safe place to walk through the neighboring complexes. Liberty Park is close by, and the hotel allows pets. Our room had a tiny bathroom, no tub, and shower doors that wouldn't stay shut. The wall thermostat didn't work and the refrigerator wasn't cold. At check-in, nobody greeted or acknowledged us, and the lobby had an overpowering unpleasant smell. We ate at the restaurant; the food was fine, though service took a while.

The lobby looked lovely, the bathrooms were clean, and the location was great. For what it cost, though, the hotel felt underwhelming compared with other Hilton Garden Inns I've stayed in. The charging ports were handy, but I'd like to see C chargers too, since those are what people are being offered now. The sinks and tub drained slowly, and the drain did clog when the water ran for a while. There were makeup wipes and, I think, large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash, which was a nice touch. Someone had used the coffeemaker before we arrived and left clear evidence of it.
