Candlewood Suites Bismarck by IHG

Latoya, who was working the evening we checked in, really went out of her way to find an extra blanket for us. She was so kind. My family and I stayed one night, and the room was mostly clean and comfortable. The beds and bathroom were clean, though a cloth wiped across the bathroom door turned brown. It was a great experience overall.

The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The bedroom bed was comfortable, but our adult son said he could feel the frame bars through the thin mattress on the foldout couch in the living room. The accessible room we ended up in was fine, though its shower was very short and made for someone in a wheelchair. Check-in was the worst we’ve ever had. We arrived around 5:30, well after the advertised 3 pm time, and there still wasn’t a clean room. When we returned at 7:30, they gave us a room, but it was a studio instead of the one-bedroom suite we’d booked. We carried all our luggage back downstairs to point out the mistake. The employee said that was what I booked and all they had, but I showed her the confirmation email. Eventually someone else came out and said she was still cleaning some rooms, about five hours past check-in time. They had a suite, but were going to give it to the person behind us, who was also waiting for the correct room. We finally got a room close to 8 pm. One star for check-in, four for the room. Waiting that long for the room I paid for was ridiculous.

My first stay as a traveling nurse went well, except I got locked out of my room one day. The second stay has been below par. The room wasn’t stocked, so I had to ask for kitchen towels and paper towels. The dishes were still in the dishwasher, and despite the note saying they were clean, there was food on the silverware, so I’m not sure they were. The ice maker doesn’t work. There was only about a quarter of a bottle of used dish soap left, and the dishwasher soap had already been opened and spilled everywhere when I picked it up. Do better!

We stayed five nights for work and had no complaints. Alex greeted us at check-in and was kind, helpful, and had great suggestions for the area. The staff welcomed us every time we passed through the lobby. Our room was very nice and clean, and the location was convenient in town. Great hospitality, and I highly recommend this hotel if you’re nearby.
