The coastal setting is peaceful, and the Peace Arch border is an easy short walk away. Staff were very friendly, even when I called at an inconvenient time, and check-in and check-out were simple. Our room had everything we needed, and the linens were clean and free of debris. I had a very pleasant stay and would choose this place again if I’m back in Blaine.

The toilet backed up into the kitchenette sink when flushed, which was disgusting. The room was dirty and dated, and the bed was hard and felt unclean. We didn’t even get under the sheets. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I don’t want anyone else paying without knowing what they’re in for. We’re never coming back. This place doesn’t deserve even one star.

Nothing in the room worked, and the place was filthy and smelled awful. The air made me feel sick. Monthly rates are over $1,000, which is outrageous for this. Management was horrible. It doesn’t deserve even one star, and I’d tell anyone looking for somewhere to stay to avoid it. This place should be demolished!

We were trying to stay near the border crossing to save time in the morning. That was a terrible idea. After ten minutes inside, my husband and I felt so uneasy that we left without complaining, paid for a room at Semiahmoo Resort, and were relieved to feel safe. It was 15 minutes down the road and cost $129, compared with $75 at bay side motor inn. I’d have paid $250 for the resort, or slept in the car rather than stay at the motel. The place looked wrong as soon as we pulled up. There were bikes and other non-motel things in windows and locked to railings, and every room had different curtains. Our door wouldn’t open until the front desk woman showed us the trick. Inside, it smelled like years of smoke covered with overpowering floral deodorizer. The lampshades still had plastic on them but looked 30 years old. The walls were paper thin, everything felt dirty rather than merely old, and I worried about bed bugs. We didn’t even look in the bathroom. The lights barely lit the room and one flickered. The whole place felt post-apocalyptic. When I returned the key in the morning, I explained why we hadn’t stayed and asked about a refund. The man at the desk seemed unconcerned and said people always compliment the rooms. I can’t imagine anyone saying that. He also didn’t seem bothered that the place was so dirty and scary we paid again to stay somewhere else. I’ve never done that before. It was truly a traumatizing experience.
