Holiday Inn : Bloomington W MSP Airport Area by IHG

The lobby was clean, and the front desk staff were friendly and got me checked in quickly. The hotel is in a busy area, though, with revving cars, ambulances, and police sirens. It's fairly close to Mall of America, so there's plenty to do during the day. The elevator felt old and sketchy, jerking as it went from floor to floor, which made me uneasy. Our room was a bit dated but worked for our reason for staying near the airport to pick up my children. The king bed wasn't as comfortable as beds at other Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties I've used. We had an early start, and since weekend breakfast doesn't begin until 7 a.m., we couldn't eat there.

I used to really love this hotel and stayed here for years whenever I came to town for family or work. I even booked rooms here for my sales team. After a previous visit when the hot water was out for two days, I was told to come back and talk to a manager so they could help me out. I was in Minneapolis again and gave it another chance. My fiancé needed the room early to work, but the bald manager charged me $40 to get in a few hours before the usual time. When I reminded him what I'd been told, he said, “I never told you that.” That's the loyalty I got. I won't return, and my company won't book our sales guys here anymore. There are plenty of other hotels around. Hope the $40 was worth it.

The room and pool were clean and very nice, and my wife and I stayed just one night. Check-in took a long time even though we had a reservation. I don't understand why we couldn't quickly show ID and get our keys. We didn't try breakfast, but it cost $8 per person.

Do not stay here, there are cockroaches. The room itself was nice, and housekeeping were helpful and kind: they caught the roach and took it to the front desk. The desk worker was rude and seemed to suggest I was lying, first saying there aren't cockroaches in Minnesota, then implying we brought it in. They wouldn't offer a discount or do anything, saying only the manager could handle it. There wasn't even an apology or acknowledgment of the problem. The manager was supposed to contact us because he wasn't there that day, but it's almost been a week and we've heard nothing. I tried following up today, but the hotel phone just rings and hangs up. I would not recommend this place. I've never had this happen before, and I've usually had good service at Holiday Inn Hotels.
