We left without checking in after management refused to refund us, even though the amenities we’d booked around weren’t available. We’d reserved the day before while passing through Fargo, and had been told there were two hot tubs and a pool. The pool and one hot tub were closed; the other tub was lukewarm and basically not working. We were traveling with two kids who’d been looking forward to swimming, and nobody had told us about the closures or the lack of heat when we booked. Management said the rate was the same with or without the amenities. We felt misled and left with no help, essentially just out of luck. We recommend Come on Inn instead. We’ve stayed there a couple of times, and it costs about the same. It’s cleaner, the pool area is nice, the hot tubs are actually hot, and there are several of them. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and they gave us a late checkout and a military discount. Mainstay is trash.
I got stranded at the hotel after my trip when my car died in the cold, after using the park-and-pay option online. Javier and Sam at the front desk were kind and incredibly helpful. They kept us entertained and hopeful while we tried to figure out what to do. God bless them, they deserve a raise!
We gave this place another try after a bad first stay, because they asked us to, but the second visit was even worse. My wife and I booked a king and got two double beds instead. The hallways had trash and smelled awful, and the elevator smelled like urine. There were used, dirty washcloths still hanging from the shower rod, and the hot water ran out quickly. One bed was right beside the refrigerator and stovetop. When I raised these problems, the staff seemed uncaring and unfriendly. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
I’ve had to deal with problems in nearly every part of this stay. The room heater’s control panel didn’t work, and while the replacement panel did, the heater is noisy, runs often, and has one missing filter and another with holes. I have to keep adjusting its setting when the outdoor temperature changes to hold the room temperature steady. Cold air comes in under the hall door, beneath a window pane, and through other spots. The humidity is low. The tall window panes are very dirty and apparently aren’t cleaned. The first-floor hallway is cold, and the reception person doesn’t think its only heater can be fixed. There were only three or four bath towels when I moved in. The room was cleaned a week later, and the maid left just two or three for the whole week, so I’ve had to ask for more. Are guests expected to bring their own decent towels? The toilet often needs multiple flushes to empty. The landline has stopped working twice, and I had to unplug and reconnect it to get it going. The TV has only 20+ channels, and the picture quality may be the most outdated thing here. Laundry costs $3.25 per load per machine. People talking and doors slamming in the hallway before 7 AM have interrupted my sleep on most days. The room doors and some nearby hallway doors close too loudly. Outside, I’ve slipped on ice on a walkway and landed hard on my side, and saw ice there again yesterday. Watch your step. There’s a smoker I’ve had to walk past, and lots of cigarette butts on the ground under my window. Dog poop is still in view outside my window despite my complaining in three different ways. I reported cigarette smoke coming into my room from someone smoking between two exit doors, not outside. The hotel put up a sign threatening eviction for smoking, but hasn’t provided an outdoor smoking area. Nearby red lights have involved very long waits, and hitting several red lights in a row is irritating. Vehicle sirens are also too common. A housekeeping person once barged into my room with a vacuum on the wrong day, even though my floor is tile.
I needed help sorting out several things, and Wab and Sarah, I believe those were their names, made it easy and quick from the moment I walked in. Best experience I’ve had at a Comfort Inn, by far. 10/10 🙌🏾
