Best Western Desert Oasis

The room was dated, the carpet needs replacing, and the security feature on the north side door was useless and seemed to be there for show. I also found a large, well-fed spider in the shower and dealt with it myself, since I didn’t want to have to interact with the front desk. Before arriving, I called to reserve a room. Martha at the front desk was rude from the start, didn’t help me make a reservation, said I should just show up because she had 19 rooms, and then hung up. When I arrived, I met the same person I’d spoken to on the phone, and her attitude hadn’t changed. She was one of the rudest people I’ve met. For this area and price, I’d keep driving.

I usually enjoy Motel 6, but this Best Western was a big step up, and even stands out among other Best Westerns. I slept comfortably, the facilities were nice, and the breakfast spread was the best I’ve seen at a hotel in years: omelets, biscuits, waffles, a yogurt dispenser, coffee dispenser, juices, several kinds of milk, fruit, cereal, and pastries. I’m probably forgetting something, but it was great. I’m taking off one star because the last guest had left things in the fridge.

We had a nice stay and would use this hotel again. It was calm, the room was clean and spacious, and the staff were helpful and courteous. Good service all around.

Getting a good night’s rest, the point of paying for a hotel, was impossible at the Best Western Desert Oasis in Ehrenberg. The two outside electronic key doors that are supposed to secure the hotel were both broken, so anyone could get in. They slammed, and people came and went noisily all night. There were people living in cars and lots of creepy men hanging around the parking lot. The hotel shares that lot with a very large Flying J gas station next to a noisy highway. Inside, the place was filthy, with trash strewn around and signs it was never cleaned. The rooms are old and dated, and the carpet was frayed, ragged, and stained. Best Western just isn’t what it used to be.
