The location was good and easy to walk around, and the shared bathrooms were clean. There were plenty of clean, fluffy towels and a kitchen, but we won't stay here again. A dirty, oversized cart blocked the entrance inside the front door for the entire stay. We got our room number and key code by text, but someone else had already been assigned to that room. There was no staff on site, and our call went unanswered; eventually someone texted a code for another room. The bed had no skirt, just split box springs that looked sketchy. The carpet smelled odd, the mattress was old and had a strong funky odor, and there was no quilt or duvet, though the sheets were clean. At night, someone repeatedly tried to follow my wife into the single-occupancy bathroom and then jiggled the handle as if trying to get in. This happened on more than one night. There are cameras in the halls, and we texted about it, but nobody followed up. The location is good, but the place didn't feel safe or well organized. Maybe it would suit a couple of buddies going out drinking.

The manager was always quick to respond when we needed something, and the other guests we met were friendly and seemed happy with their accommodations. People were there for quick visits, work, workshops like massage training, and vacations. Our children were with us, and we felt completely safe throughout. The furniture and bedding were clean and comfortable and met our standards for a good stay. The hostel was impeccably clean, and its 1909 building makes for a fun bit of Seattle history. We loved our stay. We spent a night at the Green Tortoise too. It was clean and offered a typical hostel experience, but Hotel Hotel Hostel was far better for us. It had a safe location, private rooms with comfortable furnishings and bedding, and a quieter, smoke-free atmosphere. Important parts of Seattle were easy to reach from there.

The manager answered all my booking questions and made contactless check-in easy, and the other guests were friendly and considerate. As a solo woman traveling, I felt good about staying here. My private room even had a fridge and sink, and the place was impressively clean and professional for the low price. Just know it’s a hostel, not a luxury hotel, and the lively neighborhood gets really loud on weekend nights. If you’re low maintenance and just need somewhere to crash, it’s great.

I keep coming back because it’s quiet, clean, and easy to sleep in, even though I usually have trouble sleeping when I travel. The beds are comfortable, the rooms have air conditioning, and there’s a sink, water boiler, and mini fridge. The shared kitchen is tidy and well cared for, too. There are trails, food, coffee, groceries, and transit within walking distance. Check-in is online, with the details texted on arrival day. If you book through a third party, the link may not work, but a quick phone call sorts it out. Just remember this isn’t a typical hotel. It’s a convenient, no-frills place, and I’ve stayed several times.

Back for my fourth stay this month, and I think I’ve found my favorite room. The layout’s a little different, and the whole property has such a unique concept. Wish I’d thought of it.
