Best Western Plus University Inn

The pool and hot tub area were lovely, and the saltwater pool was one of the cleanest I’ve enjoyed. Breakfast was plentiful, though just mezza mezza. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with excellent beds and bedding, a microwave, mini fridge, and a big flat screen with 80 channels. Depending on the room, there’s either a table with two chairs or a workstation desk. Everyone on staff gave excellent customer care, especially Johnny at the front desk, who’s a consummate professional.

The location suited our visit and the price was fairly reasonable for the area. The updated rooms had comfortable beds, but we had to get the rug shampooed because our feet got dirty walking on it. Breakfast was standard hotel food, nothing special.

There were ants in the room, animal poop around the property, and nothing seemed clean or well maintained. None of the microwave, AC, or fridge appliances worked. We were short on supplies too, with no towels or laundry detergent, even though the hotel was less than half full. Our room wasn’t cleaned on the first day because we were expected to tell reception every day. We’d assumed housekeeping would happen automatically, as at other hotels. The reception woman was extremely rude. When we asked about the check-in delay despite having paid up front, she yelled about hotel policies. We asked her to watch her tone, and she threatened to call 911. It was a crazy experience. This was our first stay at a Best Western, and we won’t return to this hotel chain.

The rooms open onto the pool and walkways, so a room nearby could be noisy. The large glass windows let in lots of light, but if the curtains are partly open, people on the walkway can see you in bed. At 9:30, well before the 11 a.m. checkout, we caught a housekeeper with her hands on the window and her face pressed against it, peering into our room. That felt aggressive. The lobby was run down and smelled strongly of mildew, though I didn’t notice the smell in the rooms. Otherwise it was clean and affordable, breakfast and coffee were good, and the shower pressure was amazing. I’d stay again. The rooms have a distinctive big window, and the poolside location could mean some noise.
