The Lodge at Bodega Bay

We had to leave unexpectedly because of a family emergency, on the same night we checked in, without using the room. The next day we called to check out remotely and explain what had happened. A few days later, the hotel had taken a substantial amount off the charge, without us asking. We’re so grateful for that kindness and understanding. We would definitely return and recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bodega Bay. Thank you.

The rooms are spacious, set on a green hillside with lovely sunset views. There’s a fun outdoor hot tub and a heated pool. The restaurant has good choices, including vegan options.

The room was spacious and the grounds are beautiful. That was about all that went well. The website gave me a different impression of what to expect. There’s no AC, just a loud fan in the closet for airflow, and a heater in the room. Imagine being there on a hot day. The fog horn goes all night. It’s outside the hotel’s control, but light sleepers should know about it. My husband was up all night. Don’t count on a late checkout. Staff couldn’t do much to help, and had no authority to grant more than an extra hour. The nearby water was muddy, not the beach I imagined from the website. The harbor view was only a little glimpse. They skimp on small things too, like not providing to-go paper cups for coffee in the room. After no sleep, I had to chug coffee with the limited time I had because a later checkout didn’t seem worthwhile for the hotel to arrange. So sad. It was unfortunate that we picked this hotel for my husband’s milestone birthday. I wish we’d chosen somewhere else. I’m not sure how a hotel without AC holds four stars. Learn from our experience and save yourself while you can.

Our room was spotless and comfortable, and check-in was smooth and welcoming. In-room dining was excellent, and the housekeeping team was kind and helpful, even in the rain. The Lodge at Bodega Bay was a wonderful place to get away and relax. It’s easy to see why it’s the number one hotel.
