DoubleTree by Hilton Richmond - Midlothian

Being just across from Johnston Willis meant I didn't have to drive over an hour home each night while my husband was there. I stayed several nights, and the hospital discount helped, though the cost still added up. Parking through an app was another $10 each night. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the desk staff were great. They gave me warm cookies at every check-in, which was something to look forward to during a really bad week.

Water pooling beneath the window and dripping down the inside of the windows and walls was accompanied by black mold. The windows were exceptionally dirty and wet. I had a migraine during my first night, which I thought might be from dehydration or the room getting hot. It almost disappeared when I left in the morning, then came back soon after I returned that afternoon. There was also a large lump or object under the carpet, enough to make walking around barefoot feel risky in case I stepped or kicked it. The hotel seemed old with only a minor facelift. Double Tree Guest Suites used to mean something, and this was far below acceptable. Gross. Stay at the LA Quinta across the street.

Although it was advertised as recently remodeled, I expected a nicer place. The room was clean, but the shared spaces weren't. Over several days, the hallway and elevator didn't appear to get cleaned. I was surprised to have to pay for parking in a suburban area. I visit the area often, but I won't stay here again.

After a nine-hour drive, Morgan's warm, attentive service made us feel cared for from check-in through the stay. They were handling calls and guest questions while also helping us, and I never felt ignored. My reservation couldn't be found at first, and Morgan courteously tried every possible way to solve the mystery. I eventually found the confirmation email and realized I'd booked the wrong day. Morgan quickly found us an available room and personally checked that it was clean and suitable. The room was comfortable and clean, better than I expected. The lobby coffee was fresh and hot, and yes, I got my warm cookies at check-in.
