The pool, lazy river, and clean private beach were wonderful. The playground was okay, though it closed for renovations the day we arrived. Hopefully it will be new and exciting when it reopens. At check-in, they make you speak with a concierge who tries to sign you up for a 90-minute timeshare presentation. Our two-bedroom room was only okay, with several problems. The button for the tub jets fell through when we pressed it and couldn't be used. In the master bath, the glass enclosure between the toilet and shower was so crooked that the door couldn't close and would hit the other door. I worried the glass might shatter. There was mold on the master shower grout at the top and bottom where the tile meets the regular wall. The microwave didn't work, and the available pots had flaking Teflon. Shopping and food are about a 10-minute drive away, and Old Bonita is around 30 minutes away. The hotel is tucked away and hard to reach, with construction along the way, odd turns, and small signs. I wouldn't recommend it without a car. T-Mobile service was weak, so I relied on Wi-Fi most of the time.
The room was uncomfortable: the beds and pillows weren't comfortable, and the AC seemed to have only two settings, either very cold and clammy or very warm and damp. There was no soundproofing. A small entryway shared between neighboring room doors amplified noise, so I could hear everything next door whether people were talking normally or yelling. The front doors slammed and echoed through the night, and guests had to pass through two doors to reach their unit. Housekeeping wasn't offered unless you called for individual items. After several failed requests by text for extra towels, a plastic bag of them was left on the floor outside our door later that night. The hotel is very remote, down a long, winding route with construction debris and signage. Getting groceries or food takes a while, and our delivery driver got lost in the sprawling complex because the signs weren't clear. I could go on, but if you're still considering this for a cheaper night's stay, good luck, and I hope you don't get partygoers like we did.
Our studio was small but had what we needed, with a lovely golf course view and the pools and restaurants right across the street. There were plenty of well-kept pools, and we especially enjoyed the lazy river. The restaurant was very basic, but food could be delivered anywhere in the resort. I expected a less remote location; shopping and restaurants were about a 10-minute drive away, though the hotel offered a free shuttle. We stayed three nights and the room wasn't cleaned or maintained during that time, which was disappointing. We could call the front desk for supplies when needed, but a freshly made bed would have been nice. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.
The pool is nice, but the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and good luck getting to the private beach. It was booked for our whole stay. Before check-in, they tried to sell us a timeshare, and kept at it while we were there. We said no and got a terrible room. During our four nights, the room was never cleaned and we weren't given fresh towels. At checkout, they charged a $35-per-day resort fee, supposedly for free parking and Wi-Fi. If you're paying for it, it's not free. We will never stay here again.
This feels like our home away from home. We've stayed at this location about 30 times, and the lazy river and pool bars are awesome. Adonis and Valeria always take great care of us, and Sam at the front desk does a terrific job. Congratulations on your promotion! Building one has been updated, which was a pleasant surprise. See you in May!
