Budget Inn Boron

The woman working there was as sweet and hospitable as could be, but the room was another story. The AC couldn't cool it properly. The windows and floorboards were disgusting, and the fridge wasn't plugged in and smelled like hell. The bedding looked clean, but after seeing the rest of the room I wouldn't sleep there. I took a quick shower and moved on. It had a real Bates motel vibe.

The air conditioning was so strong we had to turn it down, and we're from the beach, used to cool temperatures. The bed was comfortable, the staff friendly, and the room very quaint and clean. We ordered a pizza the front desk lady recommended, and it was great. There were just two pillows, so four would've been better. A few small touch-ups would help the place shine, but the walls and bathroom tile are in good shape, and the building feels solid. You can't hear anything from outside the room. A train passes, but its sound didn't bother me. I saw no cockroaches, and it was very clean, with none of that stale smell you get in lots of hotels. I'm very sensitive to smells. I'd stay again without a problem, probably over the next few years as we're moving to Texas.

Room 16 had comfortable beds, one firm and one soft, which worked perfectly for us. The shower pressure was amazing and rinsed my hair fast. There’s truck parking across the side street, but watch out for the deep, soft sand. The TV turned on, but there was no cable signal. I called the office and no one answered. We had three small, crunchy towels; the sweet receptionist would give us another if asked. The coffee pot and hair dryer were available on request, but we didn't know to ask ahead of time. Going to the office with a wet head in the cold to fetch something that should've been in the room wasn't fun. The motel is very old and badly needs updating. The carpet was worn, dirty, and gross. The bathroom was clean, but its age made it feel dirty. The little soap holder in the shower was rusty and grimy, and replacing it would cost less than $5. I doubt we'll return unless rates come down and we get what we pay for. Having to ask for a coffee pot, with no honey bun, snack muffin, or anything offered for breakfast, was just weird. $105 should've gotten us two or three nights.

The staff were super nice, and the motel wasn't noisy or obviously dirty. I also appreciated having a fridge and microwave for food, since plenty of places I've stayed on work trips haven't had those. The building is old and run down, though, which seems to fit the area. I felt a bit freaked out outside at night, especially as the only guest there. There are only two motels around, so if you need to stay nearby, you'll probably end up here anyway. I doubt I'll be back in the area, but if I were, I'd likely stay here again.
