Boston Marriott Copley Place

Ashley Wright, our concierge, was wonderful. While we were out one evening, she sent up a gift basket, and on our last night she sent a bottle of Champaign. Jay in security was also friendly and very helpful. It was our first Boston trip and our 39th anniversary. We had dinner at Yardhouse, where the food was phenomenal and everyone was so welcoming. I have no complaints at all. This was the best place we’ve ever stayed, and we’ll definitely return. Dinner was $20-30.

We come here a few times each year, for one or two nights, and it’s my favorite hotel in Back Bay. The location is a big reason: two blocks from The Christian Science Center and three from Newbury Street, with plenty of cafes and places to eat in between. It’s also connected to the Prudential Center complex, with its two malls, convention center, hotels, and restaurants all linked indoors. In winter I use the network to get out of the cold, and in summer to avoid bad weather when I can. There’s even a Starbucks on the second floor by the pedestrian bridge to Prudential Center. The hotel is large and modern, and can get crowded in the lobby at weekend check-in. Check-in takes a while, but never more than 15 minutes for us. The valet area sometimes backs up with cars. Once inside, the many elevators are quick, though you don’t choose which one arrives. Staff are professional and courteous, but not especially friendly, which is fine by me. Our room was well equipped, with a useful fridge, comfortable beds, and a clean, modern bathroom. The size was decent. The windows don’t open, but the room didn’t feel stuffy and smelled fresh. The hotel is very clean overall. It can get expensive during busy periods and local events, but for the quality and convenience, we think it’s worth the cost. We’ll be back soon. I’m an anxious traveler, so I phoned the hotel the day before my stay with a list of questions. Desi at the front desk was patient and warm, and put me at ease without making me feel like a bother. The welcome continued when I arrived. Julia was so friendly that check-in felt like catching up with an old friend. Desi had noted my arrival in the reservation, and Julia let her know I was there. Desi came over to say hello, remembered our call, and wished me a safe journey. That meant a lot. When I found that the refrigerator wasn’t working, someone came up almost right away. Miguel made sure it was fixed and asked whether I needed anything else, from towels to extra amenities. He was very considerate. Even though the weekend was sold out and the lobby was busy, the hotel was spotless and surprisingly peaceful. The elevators were quick too. Every staff member made me feel cared for and relaxed. I already know where I’ll stay next time I’m in Boston.

I paid a bit less for a room the other night, and it had a whole kitchen, living room, separate bedroom, and huge bathroom. The standard room I got this time didn’t feel like as good a deal for the money, though I guess the location explains the higher price. Still, it’s a great place and I love staying here. Marriott never disappoints me. You’re close to everything, with shops easy to reach and most things connected. Back Bay station is right there if you need the train. There are beautiful churches, the library in Copley Sq., shops, restaurants, bars, and the green and orange lines, all within walking distance. I just wish I’d gotten a little more for what I paid.
