The bathrooms stayed clean, and I never had to worry about finding one free, which can be an issue in hostels. There are also plenty of shared spaces for studying, working, or hanging out, and the location is fantastic. One layout detail could be better: the flooring changes between the dorm, hall, and bathroom. That leaves you choosing between wearing outdoor shoes in the bathroom or using slippers that get dirty quickly. It’s a common hostel problem, but changing the floor design here would make the stay more comfortable.

I had a free day between trains, and HI Boston even offered a FREE professor-led walking tour of downtown Boston. The kitchen and other common areas were stocked and kept up really well, which isn’t always the case in hostels. My dorm room wasn’t large, but its layout made it feel more spacious, and it was impeccably clean. I choose hostels for value, and HI Boston met and exceeded what I hoped for. From check-in through getting a few provisions for my next adventure, the person at the desk was genuinely friendly as well as professional and courteous.

The small extras made the stay easy: there’s bike storage, water fountains, and a shop with practical things like detergent, brushes, and snacks. They also run activities during the week. Boston Common is close by, and there are lots of places to eat just outside. The showers are modern, with color indicators for how long they’ve been running, blue, green, then red. It has more of a hotel feel than a typical hostel, especially in the shared dining and sitting areas. The rooms are nice, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms clean with hot water and fresh towels, and the staff were friendly and helpful. A comfortable, well-managed place to stay.

The best sleep I can remember having in a dorm, and it was only one night at HI Boston. My bed was really comfortable and cozy, with extra privacy. The building is lovely and well cared for, and the staff were personable and efficient. Joseph was especially welcoming and sociable when I checked in and out. Thanks!

I always meet friendly people here, and it’s a good affordable option for solo travelers of any age. Boston food can get expensive, so cooking in the huge kitchen saves a lot. They have the pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and even oil, and the staff take care of the dishes and keep the space in shape.
