Our room was roomy and the view of Lake Mead was amazing. I liked our location and room, but for what we paid, the service, friendliness, and conveniences were lacking. On our seven-night stay, housekeeping came the first two days, then not once for the rest of the visit, even with the door sign out. They didn't even empty the garbage. We were never told at check-in to call down for fresh towels or more shampoo, and when I asked at checkout, I was told I should have called. We don't need daily housekeeping, but after the first two days we had no reason to think it wouldn't continue. There was a fridge but no coffee maker. The coffee was free with a coupon for the gift shop. The ice machine on our floor didn't work either, and we were told we could ask the front desk. We ate at the Bourbon Street bar. They were out of pepperoni for the individual pizza and out of lettuce and tomato for the chicken burger. Since it's a drive back into Boulder City, we ordered anyway, but the fries and pizza arrived burnt.

The staff were very good, and the view from the room alone is worth a visit. We appreciated the fridge and pretty decent microwave, and had a comfortable stay in a basic room with what we needed. The dining choices weren't good, though. The coffee shop was really the gift shop with a few tables, while the other two dining options were in small casinos where children couldn't go. All three offered counter service, and the food was mediocre at best. I think the corporation that owns this Lodge could make it much more successful by putting money into room decor and upgrades and promoting it.

The scenery on the Hoover Dam 12 mile kayak trip was amazing, and worth the cost of all the permits, though the trip is expensive. We travel with our own gear. The launch was stressful, with so many people trying to put in one after another, and it felt like a cattle drive. Looking back, I wish I could have split the 12 miles into an overnight trip.

We especially enjoyed chatting with Linda and Steve at the main bar, and Fernando at the taco bar. They made our visit delightful and are worth visiting in their own right, quite apart from the hotel. The place was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the restaurants are very affordable for a snack or a meal.

The 24-hour food options were surprisingly good value, most around $5, and there were so many that I had a hard time choosing because they all sounded good. The front desk staff were nice. There are laundry facilities, a workout gym, and a seasonal pool and spa. Smoking is allowed in the casino.
