Holiday Inn University Plaza-Bowling Green by IHG

The main problem was the pool lift. We were told it worked and asked to come back later that afternoon, but when we returned, staff said it didn’t work at all. We had extended our stay by a day specifically so my daughter could swim. She uses a wheelchair full time, so accessibility matters to us. We’d come to the Holiday Inn Plaza for her to enjoy the pool, and also found that the TV in our room didn’t work. The front desk sent maintenance even though they already knew about the TV, and the maintenance worker told me management was aware but sent them anyway. At checkout, a manager said we’d get a refund for these problems. Nearly a year later, I still haven’t received it or heard anything. This isn’t about getting a free stay. It’s about accessibility, honesty, and accountability. Disabled guests shouldn’t be promised accommodations that aren’t available.

The bartender was amazing, and the drinks were perfect. The rooms, though, had a strong musty smell. After I moved to another room and found it just as bad, I called the manager, who told me every room at this location stinks because of humidity. I was told the smell comes from mold caused by the humidity. It got into my clothes, depending on how long I stayed. Since families with babies stay here, there should be a notice at the entrance or front desk. The lobby didn’t smell, only the rooms.

The breakfast was wonderful, and the wait staff did a great job. Make sure it’s included with your room, though, because it can get pricey, especially with kids. I also liked the atrium, with its plants and flowing water. It was a relaxing place to sit with company. The room was comfortable and the bed cozy, though the room was only mostly clean and the shower wasn’t great. There weren’t many TV channels, and they went out sometimes, which was frustrating. The amenities are fair, with a pool, small workout area, and business areas. It’s a nice place near the Corvette museum and other places to eat, and I’d return when I’m in Bowling Green.

Things seemed fine at first, and the bartender made me good drinks on Thursday. When I came back Friday and ordered the same Crown and 7, with a different bartender, it was awful, just Sprite with no whiskey. I told her, and she said to take it or leave it. The attitude and customer service were terrible, and she was a sorry excuse for a bartender. I won’t be back.
