Homewood Suites by Hilton Tulsa-South

I liked the Wednesday social hour, and the room was comfortable. Staff were friendly, the location worked well, and breakfast was good, though I wish the main dishes had varied more during the week. Checkout took a disappointing turn. My card was mistakenly charged $100.05 and $80.05. One charge was refunded in about three days, but I’m still waiting for a response about the other, and my incidental deposit hasn’t come back either. It’s been frustrating and inconvenient.

My wife had driven an hour and a half each way for a two-day conference. When she got to the room and pulled back the bedding, she found an adult bedbug right in the middle of the mattress. They offered to move her to another floor, but she didn’t feel comfortable staying, so I called. I asked for the manager on duty and was told there wasn’t one. I had to insist that she be reimbursed for the room she was leaving. At first I heard they were super busy and trying to keep up. Only after I asked whether bedbugs were a normal thing there did he offer to refund the room immediately. Hilton hotels, even the budget ones, have usually felt safe to me. This one didn’t. Never again.

In room 314, we found at least one bedbug on the bed nearest the bathroom. I took the bug to the front desk and showed them the bites on my daughter, but they apologized and said they’d have to verify it before doing anything. The hotel seems like it could be nice eventually, but it isn’t there yet.

Room 407 was freshly painted, but it still had old, rotted gold curtains, no wall art, a dirty bathroom floor, a yellowed shower curtain, and a dirty kitchen with an uncleaned sink and no paper towels. We didn’t feel comfortable using the kitchen utensils. The bottom drawer of the living room credenza wasn’t attached properly and fell onto my foot. The property badly needs renovations, and it’s troubling that rooms under renovation are being sold. Our direct reservation wasn’t honored when we arrived, even though we showed the confirmation number and the name of the staff member who took it. They said no adjoining rooms were available. After talking with the night host, the one positive part of the property, we were given room 407. In Tulsa, OK, I expect better from Hilton. They’re selling rooms that should be out of service.
