The location is amazing, but my small wedding weekend stay was a disappointment for me and my guests. The hotel isn’t cheap and seemed to have cut a lot of corners. Brookline has plenty of good food, so I’d eat elsewhere. I’d called ahead and asked them to hand out welcome letters at check-in. I brought the letters and guest list in person the day before, and they assured me again they’d distribute them. They didn’t, so I took them back and handed them out myself. Some guests were treated rudely by the valet and felt uncomfortable. Given the price, you may be better off parking across the bridge in Boston and walking five minutes. Guests were also told breakfast was complimentary, apparently because staff meant “continental” breakfast. When the bill arrived for the very mediocre meal, they were surprised and upset. The charge was removed, then added again for some reason, and fixing the bill took a lot of effort. My sister’s fridge stopped working and her food spoiled. I had a mechanical whistling or beeping sound behind my headboard, but the hotel did move me to another room. That room still had a bright, flashing green light, apparently from a carbon monoxide detector, which they said was in all the rooms. I could see it through my sleep mask with my eyes closed, and it made sleep difficult for me and my guests. The shower floor is very slippery, and the sliding doors don’t close properly, so water gets all over the bathroom floor. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and one bar of soap for both the sink and, I guess, the shower, so you may want to bring body wash. It’s a shame there aren’t many other hotels to choose from. By the end of the weekend, my guests and I realized we hadn’t enjoyed the stay much. I hope this is useful.
The hotel, restaurant, and most of the staff were fine. The valet and parking situation, though, was terrible. Once, I could see the parking lot from our window and watched a valet go through our backseat after we’d already unpacked everything. There was nothing left in there, and I couldn’t understand why he was looking through it. Another time, while returning our car, the valet made a U-turn from the far side and stopped perpendicular to the road when a taxi pulled in front of him. He got out to speak to the taxi driver without regard for our car, though he did pull it to the curb once the taxi moved. Then around midnight, we were told an employee would move our car to the lot shortly, but after 30 minutes it was still on the street. I went down and asked for the keys so I could move it myself. I was told I wasn’t allowed and that the car was fine there. We were uncomfortable leaving our brand-new car on the street when we’d paid for valet, so I said I’d wait. The employee offered to refund the weekend valet fee and have me park across the street. I apologized because I didn’t want to sound mean, but I still wanted the car moved. She eventually put it in the lot. I thanked her and apologized again, but she barely made eye contact and mumbled good night in a condescending way. The parking staff and the whole situation were awful, even though the hotel itself was pretty good.
The hotel is dog friendly, with good food at the bar and easy valet parking. It’s an easy walk to hospitals, Brookline village, and shops, and you can walk to Fenway too. Two nearby public parks have great trails and water features. Best hotel in Brookline.
The room was nice and the bed comfortable. The only odd thing was the bathroom’s motion sensor light: it doesn’t notice you in the shower, so it turns off while you’re in there. Maybe I missed a switch to disable the sensor. We’re cheapskates, so we used the 24-hour municipal garage across the street instead of paying for hotel valet. Breakfast can be included when booking, but we chose to eat in Coolidge Corner, where there are plenty of options. I’d stay again.
We stayed two nights and the room was very clean. The hotel is quiet, has a great heated pool, and the staff were great. It’s only four minutes from new englandbaptist hospital, and the location worked really well for us. You should visit the Punch Bowl restaurant inside the hotel. The food was great, and it was the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. Special thanks to Anthony at the valet lobby.
