Best Western Caprock Inn

After 18 hours of driving, all I wanted was a decent shower and sleep. The bathroom in our supposedly smoke-free room reeked of cigarettes, even on the walls, so the shower didn’t feel like it got me clean. The beds weren’t comfortable, and the pillows were tiny square ones. There was dirt and other stuff on the comforter when we arrived, which left me not trusting the bed. You’d think cleanliness would get more attention when it’s such a basic part of the business.

The desk clerks were kind and breakfast was good, but the room was dirty and uncomfortably hot. The AC wasn’t running when we arrived, with it nearly 90 outside, and the closed-up room smelled musty. We brought a fan from our car, but the outlet beside the AC didn’t work. The refrigerator was off or broken too. I brushed some dust off the bed and tried to move on, then went out to give the room time to cool. When we got back after driving around, it still wasn’t very cool. There was a live spider on the bed, green growth on the bathroom mirror, and a stain on the sheet when I turned the bed down. The desk said I could come get a replacement sheet, but with the storm outside I used a blanket from the car instead and kept waking up to check for bugs. It was disappointing, since the same price could have bought us a much cleaner hotel.

The kids and I barely slept on the first night of our vacation after more than eight hours on the road. High school students in the rooms next to us were running around, shouting, and playing outside our door. I called the desk twice, but the noise continued, and the employee sounded annoyed that she had to walk over each time. My husband eventually asked them to move away from our door. They did, though we could still hear them through our white noise machine. Later, weed seemed to be coming through the adjoining door. I was grateful we made it safely through the next day’s drive despite being exhausted, but I asked for a refund when checking out. Why put a young family beside the students when the hotel had other rooms? The desk took my number and said the manager would call, but nobody did. About a week later, after I submitted the online survey, the manager emailed to invite us back and give them another try. No thanks. We’ve stayed at other Best Westerns on this trip and they’ve been great, but this experience has left us likely to avoid Brownfield and contact corporate.

A car problem forced us to stop on the way from Lubbock to Roswell, NM. Booking was quick, and though we arrived frustrated, the friendly staff changed our mood. The front desk even brought us water when they saw us changing a tire. Becky from housekeeping was especially kind and helpful the next day. Thanks for making a rough night and morning easier. That kindness means a lot.
