Holiday Inn Brownsville by IHG

I’m in the area for work every couple of weeks, but I won’t stay here again. During this one night, my room key failed six times, so I kept going to the desk for a replacement. Twice they had to let me in with a master key because the reader wouldn’t work. There was no hot water in the shower, either, and no ironing board for my work pants. The room itself was okay and the rest was decent, but I’ve never had this many problems in one night. I don’t usually write reviews, but this was easily my worst hotel stay.

Celeste at the front desk was great, but this second visit was worse than my first because of ongoing room and door problems. The door wouldn’t open after several tries. Maintenance had to use a special key, and new key cards didn’t fix it. It finally started working on the first swipe sometime after 7 p.m. When I reached for the toilet paper, its holder fell off the wall. I also reported that the room felt muggy with the AC at 70. It got better when I turned it back to 67, and I’d only set it at 70 for about ten minutes after showers. Water kept dripping from the shower handle and ran out of the tub even with the curtain closed. The tub surfaces are very smooth, too. I nearly slipped several times during my two showers.

The rooms looked brand new, though the bathroom didn’t. There seemed to be mold under the soap holder in the shower, so that should be added to the room checklist. The clerk was polite and not rude, but a smile and an enthusiastic hello would make guests feel more welcome.

I won’t stay here again. There was food on the pillows, and I felt itchy in bed, though I should’ve reported the stains instead of just putting up with them. The AC unit dripped constantly. When I first arrived, a light fixture was off and sitting on a table that had been moved in front of the door. A maintenance worker put it back while I was working, did other maintenance, then left debris on the floor without cleaning it up. A man I’d seen outside playing with a knife on a bench was allowed to come in and wander the halls. At breakfast he asked me to fix him a plate, then got hostile when I said I didn’t work there. I felt bad because I knew he’d been sleeping on the bench, but the hotel clerk just sat behind the counter drawing, I assume. I called about a charge and could hear the associates in the background sounding annoyed and making fun of why I’d called. That’s okay, I just won’t be back.
