Hampton Inn Buckhannon

The walls are so thin I could hear ordinary conversation in the next room. On our first night, someone even got arrested, and drunk people were allowed to hang around until all hours. The rooms are old and dated. Breakfast was yummy, and the coffee was good, but I would NOT recommend staying here to anyone.

We reserved a suite with a whirlpool, but were given a regular room. When we showed the front desk our reservation paperwork, they said this happens a lot, and we were stuck with the basic room even though we had proof of what we booked. The telephone in the room didn’t work, the lobby water fountain was broken, and the first-floor ice machine was out of order. The parking lot was very dirty, there were shaddy people hanging around, and the staff were rude. We’ve never had so many inconveniences at a Hampton, won’t stay again, and can’t recommend this hotel.

On my 2017 return, the hotel was largely unchanged. It’s now non-smoking, but some rooms still smell of cigarettes because smoking used to be allowed. I was first assigned an old smokers room that reeked, and the front desk happily moved me to one that had never been smoked in and smelled cleaner. The fitness center is tiny, with a treadmill, an elliptical, and some medicine balls, but it’s enough for a short run. On my earlier stay, the room was a good size and the bed was comfortable, though the hotel could use more cleaning. The floors were sticky during a hot summer week, and the bathroom had dusty, dirty corners with cobwebs.

It was clean and comfortable, and we stay here once a year. The staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was good, though the selection was a bit odd for me. Our fridge didn’t work, and although we’d been told that, it was just sitting in the middle of the floor when we got to the room. The pool was closed for most of our stay. I understand there’s no supervision in the pool or gym, but kids were breaking almost every rule while we were there, which made it really unenjoyable for the other children. Someone should at least check on those areas.
