Historic Capitol Hotel Vacation Suites

We’d come back next time we’re in town. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the place was clean and welcoming. Our room had a separate bedroom, kitchen, and living area, and the owner confirmed our same-day booking right away and let us add another day when we asked. The hotel is really old, so don’t expect a generic room. There are squeaky floors and some odd layouts, but it has lots of history. You can walk straight out into downtown, and from our window we spotted a rib cook-off in the town square after rolling in late, so we went down to join in.

Buffalo turned out to be a lovely little town, full of history and character. The building itself is old and has plenty of charm, but it’s presented beautifully, with lovely furniture, great amenities, and an immaculate feel. There’s a huge amount of space to spread out. We had a thoroughly enjoyable one-night stop on our way from South Dakota to Yellowstone. The modern amenities were a bonus, especially the loads of cable channels and super-fast WiFi when traveling with two teenagers. It’s a gem, don’t hesitate to book.

We had an early start and got to town around 9am, so I called Cynthia around noon to ask if checking in before 2pm might be possible. She was more than accommodating and had the suite ready by 12:30pm. We couldn’t believe how big the Coyote Suite was. It had a full bathroom, kitchen, living room, and a separate bedroom. The owners had kindly left treats in the freezer. It’s a very cool old hotel, beautifully renovated.

Centrally located in downtown Buffalo, the Historic Capitol Hotel made it easy to walk to restaurants and shops. Cindy and Dave Stallwood were great hosts, and the Buffalo Suite was stocked with what we needed. The beds were very comfortable, we slept well, and the top-of-the-line towels were a bonus. The place was spotlessly clean and competitively priced. I’d recommend it to anyone.
