The quiet parking lot made the building's past feel especially eerie. There were only about five cars when I checked in, probably because of the seasonal lull after this year's heavy snow and frigid temperatures. I was curious to stay because one of my professors at Texas A&M University had worked on the preservation project that turned the former asylum and later hospital into a hotel. That history made me uneasy at first, but the welcoming, attentive staff helped me settle in and the place soon felt comfortable. It was a memorable visit. I'll definitely return for the bar and museum, though I'm not sure I'd stay overnight again.

The rooms felt comfortable and modern, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I also liked the beautiful bar. The Richardson is a really distinctive place, with a first-floor museum about its history as a mental institution and a ballroom upstairs that looks suited to a large event. GO BILLS!

What gives The Richardson Hotel its appeal is the historic architecture and the sense of staying somewhere with real character. The broad hallways and quiet, elegant interior carry that feeling through the building. My room was clean and peaceful, with a comfortable bed, warm lighting, and everything arranged well for a restful stay. The staff were professional and welcoming, and check-in and checkout went smoothly. The lobby and shared spaces were well kept, too. A comfortable, memorable stay in a beautiful old building.

The remodel looks beautiful, and the rooms are nice with comfy beds. Some of the views aren't much to look at. My main gripe, and the reason for the lost star, was breakfast. The choices were thinner than at Motel 6, and even the low-quality bagels didn't come with cream cheese. Nothing was hot unless you toasted a bagel. I'd have been fine paying for breakfast if there had been something warm to eat.

The area around the hotel was quiet and lovely, and the staff were friendly. We spent three nights at the imposing but lovely Richardson, enjoyed the bar, and had dinner there. Even on a packed Saturday with the Holiday Market outside, the food and service were excellent. Our room and bed were comfortable. Can't wait to come back. Go BuffaLO!!
