Lodge on the River

Our first room had a kicked-in door that wouldn’t lock, was filthy, had cockroaches, no towels, a full trash can, and a broken TV. Staff said they’d fix it and bring towels, but no one showed up. The second room was just as bad, with no sheets, towels, or toilet paper, and no working TV. We spent two nights without a TV, clean towels, or sheets, while office staff were rude and dismissive. Police were on the property the first night because another guest’s room had been ransacked. Many rooms seem to have long-term residents, which made the place feel unsafe. The pool was advertised but empty, and the advertised free breakfast didn’t even include coffee. They promised us one night free, then refused, so we had to involve the police. We booked through a third party, and the owner repeatedly hung up on us. The third party eventually refunded us. There were also serious problems with charges and our card. Ask for a full list of extra fees before you stay, because they aren’t clearly disclosed. We were told we could review and sign at checkout, but they wouldn’t show us the final total and charged our card anyway. We later found a long list of fees on a receipt uncovered after we filed a police report. We were even charged for things that were already broken at check-in. Another red flag was that the owner used a name on the phone that wasn’t her real name, and when we questioned the charges, calls were cut off and no one would resolve it. If you booked through a third-party site, tell them you trusted their reputation and ask them to look at the lodge’s reviews. This was one of the worst stays we’ve ever had. Avoid this place, and proceed with caution.
