The clean, lovely room, pool, and breakfast were all great, but what made our weekend was how kind the staff were to our family. We were there at the Fairfield by Marriott in Burlington for our daughter’s sixth birthday. At check-in, Tarquin gave her candy as a little surprise. After we went out to dinner Saturday, Amy had left a birthday card on our door and goodie bags with snacks and coloring pages for both our kids. We couldn’t believe how thoughtful that was. Thank you for making the birthday and the whole family’s weekend so special.

The contractors were making a lot of noise in the hallway the next morning, including running a skill saw right outside my door. When I complained, Sandy responded with a biting attitude and said that’s what happens when they have to renovate. At check-in, I’d been told the hot water would be off from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the next day, exactly when I needed a shower. I asked for the manager, hoping for an apology or even a discount. A sincere sorry and some Marriott points would have been enough, but Sandy was abrasive and defensive. She asked why I didn’t cancel, said they figured everyone would have showered by then, and told me they’d wait for me to shower if I contacted them afterward so they could turn off the hot water. Yikes, the whole thing felt like a bad SNL sketch.

There were blonde hairs on the sheets and under the blanket, a good handful of them. Pretty disgusting. The room was smaller than I expected and noisy from the nearby trains and I-5 traffic. Breakfast was just okay for the price. I hadn’t realized it was a 2-star hotel when I booked, though looking back, that makes sense.

The beds were comfy, and the staff were always friendly. The rooms were a good size and very clean. Breakfast was a nice continental spread, with a little something different each day.

Our travel trailer and CHEV TAHOE were destroyed when we crashed on I-5 South. The local SARGENT brought us to the FAIRFIELD after that awful ordeal. We’re CANADIANS, just starting a trip south, and my wife, our 17-year-old cat Isabella, and I had nearly died only 3-4 hours earlier. I’m crying as I write this, remembering how warmly the staff welcomed us around 7 p.m. and showed real concern for what had happened. We spent our days dealing with insurance, banking, mobile providers, and having no vehicle, with all our plans inside the wrecked trailer. The staff kept helping and made us feel less useless. Hotels can be expensive, but they gave us the best rate, and even when things didn’t go smoothly, they went out of their way to accommodate us. I’m now a Marriott Travel Member. This tragedy had some really nice results. God bless the staff, and thank you Marriott for hiring and training these people. Five stars for their hospitality!
