Burton Inn & Suites

I checked the room before booking because it was the last one, and it looked clean and nice. It was just my daughter and me, so I went ahead. After bringing in our bags and a pizza box, I noticed something racing beside my suitcase. I moved it, saw a cockroach, and stepped on it. We took everything straight back out and went to the lobby for a refund, but they charged me a $25.00 cancellation fee. There were no bath towels in the room, either. I’ve never encountered cockroaches at a hotel before, and since leaving I’ve kept feeling like something was crawling on me all night. I have a photo of the dead bug on the carpet. This has made me wary of staying in hotels, and I wouldn’t recommend this place until they’ve dealt with the problem.

We ended up leaving, and I couldn't get my deposit back because I canceled. The first room smelled like an ashtray, so I asked to move. They upgraded us to an executive suite, but it looked untouched by housekeeping: the TV was on, towels were scattered across the floor, and the bed was a mess. I gave them another chance and tried a different room. It was dirty and smelled of cigarettes too, with cigarette holes in the bed. I wouldn't recommend staying there.

For the rate, I thought this was a good stay. The hotel is very quiet and straightforward, even though it's only about 500 feet from the Flint border. My room was clean, and the overall atmosphere impressed me. The daytime front desk gentleman was very polite, and the woman working nights was amazing. I don't think the people leaving negative reviews are taking the low price into account. The rooms aren't dirty or mold-filled at all.

We finally gave up and left when we pulled back the blanket and found bedding stained with dead bugs. The first room had smelled like urine and had big cigarette burns in the carpet and blanket. The replacement smelled better, but each bed had only one pillow, while the extra ones in a drawer had several stains. The floor looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed in ages. We had booked for three people, yet there was just one dirty towel and two face cloths. The attendant said refunds weren't available, so I tried to stick it out until we saw the bedding.
