We’ve been to around a dozen resorts through our vacation club, and the condo we had here was beautiful. There’s lots to do at the resort, and if you like hiking and waterfalls, you’re in luck!

The area is lovely, with easy access to popular attractions, but the resort itself has gone downhill badly since my last visit a few years ago. It needs renovation, and staff training would be a huge understatement. Our first room smelled like urine, had what looked like putty shoved into holes in the Formica countertops, black ooze coming from the fridge, dead bugs everywhere, and plenty more wrong with it. I asked the front desk for another room. Thankfully the staff member helping me was nice and found one. The “newer” room was clean, but had deep gouges in the walls, broken cabinets, a crumbling deck, gouged floors, and worn carpets and chairs. Maintenance came by several times to try to kill the multiple bee nests that had settled on the deck elsewhere. I was grateful for the front desk person, especially after watching the “front desk” manager verbally accost another guest and then walk away, leaving them standing there. The grounds looked barely cut and never trimmed back. The pools were dirty and in poor shape, with broken furniture around them.

We didn’t get a renovated unit, and ours was a little run down. The hot water was far too hot and felt dangerous, so be careful with showers for little ones. Staff should know what’s open: we called the front desk about mini golf and were told it was closed, then later happened to pass the pool near it and saw it open. If you’re sleeping in the loft, bring an eye mask because some windows have no curtains. I know they’re renovating units, and I’ll try it again when the work is done.

I’m only there for a week in February, so I can’t say what it’s like at other times. We skipped 2022 after a bad stay in 2021, when I was with two other families and our three kids were uncomfortable playing on the floor. We’d been given an old room that was gross, with broken, falling-apart sofas and the whole place in very poor shape. This year, 2023, we asked for a refurbished room and it was absolutely beautiful. It felt much cleaner, and we were comfortable letting our five kids play freely. There was enough furniture for six adults to sit comfortably, and the kitchen was just big enough to make several meals a day. We all had a much better time. There are two indoor pools, one with a game room and one with a gym. The gym pool is open all week, but the game room pool only opens on weekends. I’m upset about that because there isn’t much to do with kids under 6, and that pool is more kid-friendly. The game room would’ve been perfect. My mother-in-law called corporate to complain, but they never returned her calls, even after she was on hold for an hour twice. I really like the place and would like to come in summer when our kids are a little older. It looks like there’s more to do then.

We were given a lakefront villa with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a sofa bed. It needed renovation, but was still in great shape aside from a broken toaster. We called it in, and they brought us a new one within 15 minutes. The kitchen was well equipped. There are three pools in the complex, and Fairway was the best. It has mini golf, indoor and outdoor pools, an arcade, and a wonderful hot tub. We had the place to ourselves for hours, playing in the arcade and then using the pool and hot tub. Would definitely go back.
