Carole's boundless energy and insider tips on things to do and places to eat made our Homer visit even better. The ground-floor B&B was large enough for our family of five adults for a couple of days, and it's within walking distance of historic downtown and the beach areas. It felt like an intimate setup, with Carole living upstairs. There was one bathroom, plus two bedrooms: one had a double and a twin bed, the other a double and a Murphy bed. Be sure to look for the huge flock of sand cranes just up the hill from the Whalesong.

We had everything we needed, plus a few thoughtful extras. The host was wonderful and suggested things to do and places to eat, then brought us fresh pastries each morning and even baked cookies. The place felt cozy and comfortable. I'd happily stay again if I'm back in Homer.

What an expensive mistake. The six bath towels all smelled awful, and it seemed like they hadn't been washed in months. The hallway and bedroom carpets were old and dirty, and the TV didn't work. When we mentioned it, she said they had Netflix but she didn't know how to fix the TV. The beds were okay, though small. There were five of us booked for two nights, and it was late when we arrived, so we tried leaving the door open to air the place out after noticing a mothball smell as soon as we walked in. We should have left right then. Don't be fooled by the other reviews.
