La Quinta Inn Caldwell

I needed a room at the last minute over Memorial Day weekend, and La Quinta was the only place I could find. The price was great, so I wasn't expecting much, but the room turned out nicer than some I've paid a lot more for. I was really satisfied and would recommend staying there.

The room was small, but the linens were clean. Breakfast was nice, and housekeeping was kind. The front desk woman was also kind and apologetic, and didn't charge us for the extra time we ended up staying, until 2pm as arranged. Getting that late checkout was a bit of a hassle. We needed it so our child could nap, and the man at the desk agreed to 2pm for $30, which was fine. But the daytime staff and housekeeping weren't told, so they knocked and woke our child. We had to ask three times for a portable crib, and the man seemed bothered when he went to get it. He was also constantly on his phone. The pool was freezing and dark, with peeling paint, and even our toddler kept saying it was yucky. There isn't a hot tub here, despite old photos on other websites. The bathroom and hallways were old and run down. Two stars for the experience.

The main plus was how close this Caldwell, Idaho hotel was to the freeway. We booked a king room while visiting the area, and this stay didn't meet our expectations, even though we usually like La Quinta. Our room was 220, and it looked worn and older than the online photos suggested. The pool area seemed a little dirty, too. The hot tub was so small and shallow it felt more like a warm splash pad than somewhere to relax, which was disappointing if you expect a regular hot tub. The shower soap was empty when we arrived, adding to the sense that the room hadn't been fully prepared.

We’ll stay again next time we travel that way. The rooms were clean, the continental breakfast was very nice, and the beds and pillows were so comfortable.
