The location is hard to beat, and I’d stay again for the dependable comfort and amenities. The king room was cozy and well appointed, with an old world charm polish. The heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi were lovely in December. I barely felt the cold in the thick, warm robe from the room. The spa was nicely set up, and my cheerful therapist, a former spa owner, made me feel welcome and sweetly “rubbed it in” that it was my birthday. The gentleman with a Latin accent who noted my early arrival was exactly what you want in hospitality, cordial, attentive, and efficient. The young woman who checked me in was just as good. After that, though, people didn’t really make eye contact or acknowledge me as we passed. That was also my experience at other hospitality spots during my short Calistoga visit, with the exception of Robert at Robert's Table, the high end Jamaican inspired restaurant next door, and the Calistoga pub that has Karaoke on Friday's. The bartender, KJ, and the others were super welcoming.

We had great, professional staff during our stay in the studio with an outdoor jacuzzi tub. The tub looked nice, but I wasn’t thrilled that we had to fill it every time. It also wasn’t completely private, with windows from an adjacent building overlooking it. Breakfast service was as advertised, though the same Danish/pastry was served all three mornings. I would’ve liked more variety.

The place was beautiful and right downtown, and I enjoyed the tubs and the service at the counter. But construction on the roof above my room started at 7:00 in the morning, which was a real drag. I wish they’d told me ahead of time. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have stayed.

The room had tea, coffee, breads, and fruit brought at the time we requested in the morning, which was a nice touch. Housekeeping was by request only, and there’s no parking lot, though street parking was easy to find. Check-in was easy and friendly. They use real keys and charge a fee if you lose one. The pool and hot tub were adequate, but not especially fancy or perfectly maintained. Noise is an issue, as many reviews say. We knew about it, brought a small white noise machine from home, and used the earplugs the hotel provides, so we got reasonable sleep. For the price compared with other places in the area, it was what I expected. We’d stay again without a problem. It worked well as a home base while we were out all day, though I wouldn’t recommend it to someone hoping for a tranquil stay spent lingering at the hotel.

The mineral spring-fed pool was invigorating, and the hot soaking tub was beautifully situated with privacy for guests. Those are just a couple of the memorable options here. Over three nights, the attentive staff gave us great recommendations and made the stay feel especially appreciated. I’d add a bonus star if I could, and I’ll return.
