The spa was the one part that fell short, though the mudslide treatment itself was great. Everything else about the stay was amazing. The staff were attentive and kind from the moment we arrived, from valet through turndown, and every meal we had on the property was enjoyable. Pico bar was just right for lunch after a day of travel, and Solbar was great for both dinner and breakfast. We were celebrating our honeymoon, and every team member we met congratulated us. The property felt very well managed, with communication flowing smoothly between front and back of house. Drivers took us to nearby reservations, and valet brought both our car and our belongings to the room. It was our first Auberge stay, and we look forward to returning and trying other locations in the coming months.

We were charged more than $1,600 for the room, Picobar room service, and breakfast, and I don't feel Solage delivered the value we expected from a five-star property. I'd read that it had declined in recent years and tried to keep an open mind, but we had a similar experience. The room was okay, though it didn't feel pristine: the blinds were ajar, a spoon was dirty, coffee milk was leaking, and the bath was stained. Room service was mediocre. The trays arrived wet, tortillas were forgotten and later brought cold in a napkin, and the Picobar food was just okay. Service was fine, but nothing special. At check-in they text you to say you can ask for anything, but I sent a simple question during the stay and got no reply. They did give us a bottle of champagne for a birthday, which I appreciated. Next time we'll choose the nearby Four Seasons, where we know what to expect.

The Solage team is what made this stay special for me. Everyone I met was warm, friendly, helpful, and seemed genuine. I was using points for a birthday treat, and felt looked after the whole time. I've worked in hotels and restaurants, and Alfredo at Solbar was such a good server. We talked about his Mexico City recommendations and how they make the aged hot sauce, which was amazing. He made breakfast feel like I was at his home. Room service also brought utensils and bowls when I called. The rooms are great, the beds are comfortable, and the mineral pools and gym made me feel pampered. But the people are the real reason this place stands out: housekeeping, servers, hosts, maintenance, managers, bussers, dishwashers, chefs, staff services, valet, in-room dining, and everyone else. They know their craft and are just good people. Solage in beautiful Calistoga is an amazing stay. 10/10, would recommend.

Whenever we're near San Francisco, my wife and I try to make time for the drive here and stay two or three nights. We always book the adults-only side. It's ideal if all you want is to be pampered, soak in the different pools, and lounge by the water doing nothing. We love the spa, including the mud baths. The restaurants on site are pretty decent, and Calistoga has quite a few very good places to eat if you'd like more choice.

We enjoyed taking the complimentary bikes into town, and also made use of the steam rooms, spa, and mineral baths. The property is relaxing and has what you need for a comfortable stay.
