That bathroom felt unsafe. The toilet tank had been drilled shut and had a large crack hidden under tape; when I lifted the tape, there was dirty water underneath. The toilet itself wasn't properly bolted down and rocked so much that sitting on it felt like it might tip over. Even the showerhead was bent and rusty, held together with tape. The room was disgusting too. Cheap paint was peeling off the walls and falling onto the bed, so there was no way I was sleeping there. And before I even reached the room, they charged me a “disturbance fee” despite my not making noise in the lobby. The whole thing felt like a scam. Chicago has plenty of other hotels, so stay far away from this one.
I was in town for a funeral, with a quick stay from Friday night to Sunday morning, and this was the worst hotel experience I've had. My flight kept getting delayed, so I arrived at 2 a.m. and went straight to bed. By 7:53 a.m. I was itching. I pulled back the covers and found bed bugs on the pillow and inside the sheets. Staff moved me from room 211 to 205, but the replacement room was filthy too, with stringy hair on the linens and towels and dirt and stains everywhere. I showered because I felt itchy, then went down at 9:05 a.m. to check out and request a refund. They said I had been in the room for over an hour, so they couldn't refund that day or the previous night. I called Wyndham customer service to file a formal complaint and hoped that would get the refund started. Update: Wyndham finished its investigation and said it had notified the owner/operator and conveyed its expectation that the situation be addressed. That response was disappointing, since I had already received a reply from the owner.
After the bed frame broke and the whole bed fell on me while I was sleeping on the fourth floor, they moved me to another room. That one had water damage on the ceiling and a hole in the wall. When I asked to switch again, I was told there were no rooms available. They also refused a refund, saying I was past the refund time. I asked for the manager's name and contact details after reporting the bed. The staff member only gave me the letter L and said he didn't have a last name for the manager, but I could speak to him when he arrived. The manager had a disgusting attitude. After talking with my mother about what happened, she told me to get the insurance company's name and contact information for the attorney. The manager said there was no insurance on the building because the owners were new. The front desk was told to write an incident report. It started out handwritten, but when I asked for a copy, the employee asked me to get my ID. After I brought it downstairs, he typed up the report and said accommodations had been made for the room mistake. That isn't true. The bed frame was broken, and I consider this negligence. I'll be taking it further with a lawsuit. This hotel is under new management and is supposed to become a Comfort Inn instead of a days in. Hopefully the name change brings better service, but we'll see.
There was a couple fighting in the lobby, and the man became abusive and got on the elevator with me. That was too much on top of everything else. I arrived around 11 p.m. with my kid. I had agreed to stay a second night, but woke up to a drill or jackhammer that kept going until 11:30 a.m. At the desk I asked if they were doing construction and whether guests could move to another floor so I could sleep. The manager said it would continue until 3 o'clock, and when I mentioned I had to be at work then, he replied that he was checking out anyway, so it didn't matter. After that, I was out. Trap Ho-tel.
We came from Michigan for the Taste of Chicago and left as soon as we saw what the place was like inside. The only working door was the front one, and they had us park around the corner from the building. The hotel looked awful from the outside and was very outdated, with dirty carpet and furniture. It looked like it hadn't changed since it first opened. Our room was old, raggedy, and unclean. My man checked the mattress and found bed bugs, so we got a refund and left right away. The website advertised breakfast, but they don't have it. False advertising. Absolute worst hotel ever. Don't stay here.
