Springhill Suites By Marriott Overland Park

The staff were the bright spot. Jeremy checked me in and was very pleasant. The property is clean, as expected, and sits in a good location just off the road. Still, this doesn't feel like the Springhill Suites I know. It's dated, and the mattress was worn and squeaky. I'm a Titanium Elite member who stays more than 150 nights a year at Marriott properties. I rarely review hotels unless something is outstanding or concerning, and this was my first and last stay here. To me it felt closer to a Quality Inn or another lower-tier hotel. The single elevator is painfully slow, so the stairs may be faster. Even-numbered rooms face the road and get noise; ask for an odd-numbered room, which faces the back toward a Residence Inn. There isn't much drawer space, and the fridge is truly tiny compared with the larger mini-fridges at other Springhill Suites. You can't stream on the TV like at other Marriott properties, only watch local content unless you bring your own HDMI cord. Breakfast runs from 0630 to 0930, which seems like a short window and could make it hard for overnight workers to enjoy that perk.

The rooms are spacious, which works well when you have a dog with you. Several restaurants are within walking distance, and you can walk over to Target if you forgot something.

The elevator takes forever, and the ice machine on the second floor was out. Those weren't my only issues: the common-area carpets were gross, especially in the stairwells, and there were stains on the carpet in my room too. The room itself was okay, though darker than usual. Evening staff handled check-in fine, but weren't helpful when I needed a receipt for a snack. Any one of those things might not have led me to comment, but together they did. I usually like Springhill Suites, but this one is an exception, and I'll go elsewhere next time.

Sarah and Danny are the first people I see at the front desk when I come in early in the morning. They’re always smiling and handle check-ins, including the slow CLC process, without showing stress. They make me feel welcome and wanted. Veronica in the breakfast area is just as sweet. She's always working hard and checking with a smile to see if I need anything. I'm an over-the-road truck driver and stay here whenever I'm in town. These workers are why I keep coming back. Thanks for the great service!
