I've stayed here at least six times and usually enjoy the property. This visit was fine apart from a late-night encounter in the parking garage that has me questioning whether I'll return. I was sitting in my car under a camera with my parking pass on the dashboard, talking quietly to a friend while my family slept. A guard came out of the lower garage doors a couple of times. The third time, after passing the car beside mine, he circled around and came to my open window from behind. He firmly asked why I was sitting there and whether I was a guest. I explained and showed him the pass. He thanked me, and I thought that was it. Less than two hours later, he came back and was more aggressive, demanding to know why I was in the car and to prove I was staying there. I reminded him that he’d already accepted my parking pass, and I showed him my room key. I offered to walk with him to the lower entrance and swipe in, but he said that still wasn't enough. Then he wanted my room number. I refused because I didn't know who he was, and my family was in the room. He said he'd call his boss, and I agreed that was probably best. The manager on duty joined by phone on speaker and wasn't any more helpful. She asked why I'd been in the car for two hours. I said it was none of her business and that I wasn't committing a crime. She called it unusual and said she was protecting guests. I asked what she needed to protect them from, since I was a guest and had just been sitting there. She asked the attendant whether I had a pass, then had him read my reservation number and asked for the name on it. I'd already shown my pass twice and my room key, and offered to open the lower door. I gave her my last name; she thanked me and hung up on the property walker, who walked away apologizing. This was all over me sitting in my car, bothering nobody. I love the property, but unless this gets addressed, I won't stay here again.
Erica, Caleb, and Zack made our stay. They were warm, quick, and took care of everything we needed. We couldn't have been happier, and we'll definitely be back.
Caleb at the front desk checked us in late and held our bags while we went looking for somewhere to have a late dinner. At the restaurant, Dylan never rushed us even though closing was only half an hour away. He looked after us so well that we could relax and feel welcome. The whole team seems to take guest service seriously, including housekeeping. I didn't meet the GM or other leaders, but it shows in how staff treat people. This is a really nice hotel and convention centre, and Sheraton Overland Park delivered the kind of service I hope for at a quality property.
We picked the Sheraton for an event at the Overland Park Convention Center. The room was nice and what I'd expect at this price, but the real advantage is how close it is. A short covered walkway connects the two. If you're staying overnight for business at OPCC, this is hard to beat.
Ivanna was wonderful. Since my 70-year-old mom was having surgery, she arranged adjoining rooms so I could keep an eye on her. She was so kind. The hotel itself is beautiful, with lots of event space, but the check-in experience left us disappointed. We'd driven six hours with my family and arrived looking rough. The woman at the desk was rude and looked me up and down like I was beneath her. I brought in my form, which has never been a problem before, and she just said it wasn't valid without helping me understand why. We got the rooms anyway, but the price went from $200 to over $300 for the two rooms. We're also a military family. Later, around 8:45, I asked the older woman at the bar for small packets of mustard or mayonnaise. She sighed and told me to ask the front desk. Five seconds later they told me no. She seemed judgmental and rude too. My sister has managed Marriotts for over 13 years, so this was especially disappointing.
