Holiday Inn Express & Suites Camarillo by IHG

We arrived after a 2 1/2 hour drive, and the room was clean and really nice. The young woman at the desk was welcoming and patient while checking us in. Then I realized I’d forgotten milk for my 2 year old. Another staff member said they didn’t sell small cartons, but before I’d even finished thanking her and heading out, Ayana (I think this is how you spell it, if not I apologize) offered me some from their breakfast stock so I wouldn’t have to drive to a store. I was exhausted and had a headache, and she may have noticed. That small kindness and the great customer service meant a lot. Thank you for going above and beyond!

We had a room facing the freeway, but the noise surprisingly wasn’t a problem. The sink drain did act up, filling with black water even when the sink was off. I told the manager, and he dealt with it quickly. The room was clean, the AC worked really well, and the beds were much more comfortable than at the Port Hueneme location. Breakfast was pretty decent for being free. We stayed two nights and would come back.

The two times I was approached in the “Great Room” and lobby, at 12:40PM and 5:10PM, I was just hanging out. There’s literally nothing else to do, especially within walking distance. You can look at the map yourself. Both times, people seemed to assume I had no reason to be there or wasn’t a checked-in guest. Maybe next time I should stick my card to my forehead. It’s cute when they think you don’t understand Spanish and talk down to you as if you’re ignorant. What’s the point of having places to sit and lounge if people are going to judge you for using them? Trust me, I didn’t choose this location by choice.

The bunk bed room gave our family of five plenty of space, and the kids loved getting cookies at check-in. Staff were helpful, warm, and welcoming throughout our stay. Breakfast had lots of choices and tasted good, too. The kids also had a great time drinking hot chocolate while swimming in the pool and hot tub.
