Hyatt Place Fort Worth/Hurst

I stay here whenever I'm in Ft. Worth because the hotel is nice in pretty much every other way. The fitness center, though, is far too small. It can fit maybe 6 or 7 people at most, and that's the one thing I wish they'd improve.

The AC and heater in our room had a moldy smell, though family members staying on the same floor didn't have that problem in their rooms. There was some wear and tear in the room, but the hotel was clean overall and the front desk staff were helpful.

I barely slept because the smell in room 417 was so overpowering. It was a sharp, awful mix of bleach and ashtray, and I woke at 4am with a headache wondering if what I'd taken for smoke could actually be mold. I don't know what caused it, but I couldn't wait to get out and have rarely been so relieved to end a hotel stay. I'd booked well in advance and am 6'1", so when I asked the front desk for another room at 3pm, being told the only option was a double bed felt like a downgrade. I declined, figuring I wouldn't spend much time in the room. I also couldn't believe there were no comparable empty rooms at that hour, or understand why someone else couldn't have been moved into this one if Hyatt thought it was acceptable. A small discount for taking the other room, or even a clerk willing to come check the problem with me, might have helped. Instead, I got a dismissive “nothing we can do” response. I'll absolutely never stay here again.

The quilts looked fine until we got up in the morning and held them to the light. Between the layers, there was some kind of dark dirt or mold-like substance. We also had trouble with the staff: the included breakfast was abruptly closed 30 minutes early with no warning, and neither we nor several other guests could eat. The front desk woman said she'd sent a memo, but we never received one. My husband and I were in the area to visit family. The hotel seemed fairly nice at first, though dated, and the rooms were spacious. It's in a good spot with lots of restaurants nearby and was fairly clean, but the staff left us unimpressed.
