I’ve stayed at Sonesta Camarillo often when visiting family, and this visit from February 13th-16th was comfortable overall. The room was clean, I slept well, and the atmosphere was welcoming. JR was patient and solution-oriented when I realized I’d mistakenly booked March instead of February. Mark went out of his way to get my work laptop connected so I could keep working. On Sunday at 6 a.m., Joon was pleasant and patient while extending my stay and reprogramming my key. My Saturday afternoon conversation with Amanda was disappointing. I asked about adding a night and was told the hotel was fully booked, without any visible effort to check availability. It came across as dismissive and unprofessional. I was able to book the extra night online right away.

For the price, it’s a decent hotel and I didn’t run into any problems. The fitness center had what I needed for a decent workout. The place could use some TLC, especially with the paint.

The staff were kind and responsive, and at least we didn’t see any bugs. Still, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially at over $200 a night. There was visible mold in several places on the walls and ceiling, both in the room and bathroom. The carpet and wallpaper were in unacceptable shape, and the carpets had an oily, waxy feel that made walking barefoot unpleasant. The room also smelled strongly of smoke, both weed and cigarettes. Artificial fragrances were used to cover it, though that smell was a little less strong. For this price, I expected better cleanliness, even from a budget hotel, and the rooms need updating.

We found cockroaches at this hotel, even though its website says it received the “2024 AAA Best Of Inspected Clean” award.

The rooms are a bit old and dated, and while they have what you need, they’re clean without being spotless. Housekeeping could do a better job. Service was quick when we needed help or something fixed. Parking costs $12 a day.
